Horror-mystery anime<\/a> Higurashi: When They Cry \u2013 Sotsu<\/em> is set to premiere on July 1, its Twitter<\/a> page revealed. Additionally, the first two episodes will be aired consecutively in Japan.<\/span><\/p>\n

Sotsu<\/em> is the continuation to 2020-2021\u2019s Higurashi: When They Cry \u2013 Gou <\/i>and also serves as its Answer arc.\u00a0G<\/em>ou <\/i>premiered as\u00a0Higurashi: When They Cry \u2013 New<\/i>, before\u00a0revealing its actual title to be\u00a0Gou<\/em>\u00a0after the release of the second episode. The anime initially seemed like a remake of the 2006 anime adaptation of the\u00a0Higurashi<\/em>\u00a0When They Cry<\/em>\u00a0visual novels but has since introduced new story elements and deviations.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

In a\u00a0blog post<\/a>, Funimation explained, \u201cThe kanji for SOTSU<\/em>\u00a0and\u00a0GOU<\/em>\u00a0together is sotsugyou \u5352\u696d, which means \u2018Graduation,\u2019 and is a big part of the story in\u00a0GOU<\/em>.\u201d\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

For Gou<\/i>, Funimation wrote, \u201cGou, or \u696d, is a Japanese kanji that has multiple meanings and usages, but can be used to mean karma, or the fate resulting from one\u2019s actions in past lives, based on Buddhist concepts.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n

A trailer and key visual for Sotsu<\/em> were released in late May, while two previous trailers were released in\u00a0March\u00a0and April respectively. The anime was announced in March.<\/span><\/p>\n
