It was a less than rosy sendoff for Chris Harrison.<\/p>\n

The longtime host of \u201cThe Bachelor\u201d and \u201cThe Bachelorette\u201d is not coming back to the popular reality franchise, as was confirmed by him on social media<\/a> Tuesday.<\/p>\n

\u201cI\u2019ve had a truly incredible run as host of\u00a0The Bachelor\u00a0franchise and now I\u2019m excited to start a new chapter,\u201d wrote Harrison<\/a>, who hosted the ABC series<\/a> and spinoffs since 2002. <\/p>\n

\u201cI\u2019m so grateful to Bachelor Nation for all of the memories we\u2019ve made together,\u201d he continued. \u201cWhile my two-decade journey is wrapp<\/a>ing up, the friendships I\u2019ve made will last a lifetime.\u201d<\/p>\n

When contacted by The Post, Warner Horizon and ABC Entertainment released a joint statement about the change.<\/p>\n

\u201cChris Harrison is stepping aside as host of \u2018The Bachelor\u2019 franchise,\u201d they said. \u201cWe are thankful for his many contributions over the past 20 years and wish him all the best on his new journey.\u201d<\/p>\n

Harrison reportedly received an eight-figure settlement and is stifled by a confidentiality agreement, according to Deadline<\/a>.<\/p>\n

Harrison\u2019s apparently permanent exit from Bachelor Nation comes just hours after Monday night\u2019s premiere of Season 17 of \u201cThe Bachelorette,\u201d a season featuring former contestants Kaitlyn Bristowe, 35, and Tayshia Adams<\/a>, 30, as the show\u2019s new co-hosts<\/a>. Comedian David Spade, meanwhile, has been tapped<\/a> to steer this summer\u2019s \u201cBachelor in Paradise\u201d spinoff.<\/p>\n

In February, Harrison was entangled in controversy when he defended former \u201cBachelor\u201d contestant Rachael Kirkconnell after pictures emerged of her attending an Antebellum-styled party. Kirkconnell eventually apologized and Harrison stepped down from his duties after ex-contestants slammed him<\/a> for defending her.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe are deeply disappointed and want to make it clear that we denounce any defense of racism,\u201d many of the Season 25 contestants said in a joint statement shared on social media at the time. \u201cAny defense of racist behavior denies\u00a0the lived and continued experiences of BIPOC individuals. These experiences are not to be exploited or tokenized.\u201d\u00a0<\/p>\n

In the wake of the controversy, Page Six exclusively reported<\/a> that Harrison had hired LA power lawyer Bryan Freeman, who represented<\/a> Gabrielle Union during a recent dispute with NBC\u2019s \u201cAmerica\u2019s Got Talent,\u201d on which the actress, 48, was a judge.<\/p>\n

Controversy seemed to initially heat up in June 2020 after it was announced that Matt James would be the first black Bachelor in the franchise\u2019s nearly two-decade history. At that time, former casting producer Jazzy Collins told The Post that the \u201cwhole season feels like a p.r. stunt\u201d and took the show to task for \u201cperpetuating black stereotypes.\u201d<\/p><\/div>\n
