A North Hollywood middle school teacher quit her local labor union because it\u2019s considering support of the pro-Palestine BDS movement, a report said.<\/p>\n

Lindsey Kohn of James Madison Middle School said she in a heated resignation letter that she felt \u201cunsafe as a Jew\u201d in the United Teachers Los Angeles, the Jewish Journal reported <\/a>on Tuesday.<\/p>\n

\u201cAs an educated person, I cannot understand how the union can stand by a terrorist organization and a country that bombs Israel, hurts their children and wants to kill every Jew,\u201d she reportedly said.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe Palestinians use children and civilians as human shields and then blame Israel for their death. This political battle has NOTHING to do with the education of my students.\u201d<\/p>\n

The regional union has not taken up the boycott, divestment and sanctions movement but it was passed as part of a motion by some area groups in their localized meetings. For any Israel-Palestine motion it to be adopted it has to be passed by the UTLA House of Representatives, which has its next meeting in September.<\/p>\n

\u201cThis is part of our democratic process as a union,\u201d the statement said.<\/p>\n

\u201cMotions brought by UTLA members at regional Area meetings are not the official expressed opinions of UTLA or its elected leaders.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cDebate and disagreement are essential to democracy and to our union, even when there are deep, conflicting emotions on both sides,\u201d it stated.<\/p>\n

The local area resolutions that app<\/a>arently sparked Kohn\u2019s resignation called for \u201csolidarity with the Palestinian people and call for Israel to end bombardment of Gaza and stop displacement at Sheikh Jarrah,\u201d the Journal reported.<\/p>\n

The resolution also reportedly endorsed BDS, the report said.<\/p>\n

Kohn also bashed UTLA support for the Black Lives Matter movement in her letter.\n <\/p><\/div>\n
