A high-profile UK news<\/a>paper columnist has been fired after she suggested Prince Harry and Meghan Markle should have named their newborn daughter <\/a>\u201cGeorgina Floydina.\u201d<\/p>\n

The Sunday Telegraph\u2019s Julie Burchill <\/a>was accused of \u201cdisgusting racism\u201d<\/a> with her tweet about the Duke and Duchess of Sussex\u2019s already controversial name<\/a> for their baby, Lilibet Diana<\/a>.<\/p>\n

\u201cWhat a missed opportunity. They could have called it Georgina Floydina!\u201d Burchill tweeted, referencing George Floyd, the black man whose police murder in Minneapolis sparked protests across the world.<\/p>\n

She then doubled down, according to the London Economic<\/a>, saying that she \u201ccalled the baby IT as a nod to non-binary bollocks\u201d \u2014 and writing that the Sussexes\u2019 baby\u2019s first words would be, \u201cFree Palestine!\u201d<\/p>\n

By Wednesday, her account had been removed<\/a> \u2014 and Burchill fired from the right-wing paper.<\/p>\n

\u201cI\u2019ve been sacked by the Telegraph \u2013 it\u2019s been a lovely five years,\u201d she wrote on Facebook<\/a> on Tuesday, complaining of the paper \u201calways rejecting my *edgy* column ideas.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cOnwards and upwards!\u201d she wrote, without apologizing for her tweets.<\/p>\n

Omid Scobie, a journalist friend of Markle\u2019s who authored an inside-story book<\/a> about the couple, said a spokesperson for the Telegraph confirmed that Burchill no longer works for the paper.<\/p>\n

\u201cA source confirms that she was fired following her racist tweets about the Sussexes\u2019 second child (and refusal to apologize for them),\u201d he wrote<\/a>.<\/p>\n

Burchill was not the only one punished over the racist Twitter exchange \u2014 a UK lawyer, Joanna Toch, was suspended by her law firm for her replies to the columnist, according to the Times of London<\/a>.<\/p>\n

\u201cNo Doria? Don\u2019t black names matter?\u201d she had asked the columnist, then suggesting the newborn should have been named \u201cDoprah,\u201d a mix of Markle\u2019s black mother, Doria Ragland, and Oprah Winfrey.<\/p>\n

The Family Law Cafe announced<\/a> Monday that Toch had been suspended \u201cwith immediate effect pending an internal review into her recent comments on Twitter.\u201d<\/p>\n

The company \u201cconsiders her comments as offensive, unacceptable and highly contradictory to the inclusive manner\u201d of the company\u2019s work, the statement said.\n <\/p><\/div>\n
