Alarms are typically set to specific times, but it\u2019s possible to create alerts based on the dynamic sunrise and sunset times in your area. This can be done with a Google Assistant routine on Android.<\/p>\n

If you\u2019re interested in doing this on an iPhone, it\u2019s possible through a Shortcuts automation. On Android, however, we\u2019ll be utilizing a Google Assistant routine and the sunrise\/sunset action.\u00a0Keep in mind that this is not a typical \u201calarm,\u201d but more like an alert.<\/p>\n

First, we\u2019ll launch Google Assistant by either saying \u201cHey Google\u201d or by swiping in from the bottom-left or -right corner.<\/p>\n

Next, tap your profile icon in the top-right corner to open the Assistant settings.<\/p>\n

Scroll through the list of settings and select \u201cRoutines.\u201d<\/p>\n

Tap the \u201cNew\u201d button at the top of the screen.<\/p>\n

First, we\u2019ll need to decide how to trigger the routine. This is where sunrise and sunset will come in. Tap \u201cAdd Starter.\u201d<\/p>\n

Now, we can select \u201cSunrise\/Sunset.\u201d<\/p>\n

\"select<\/p>\n

Choose whether you want the routine to start at \u201cSunrise\u201d or \u201cSunset.\u201d<\/p>\n

In order for Google to know when sunrise and sunset occur, you\u2019ll need to choose your location first.<\/p>\n

\"Tap<\/p>\n

You\u2019ll be able to choose from your saved locations or enter a new one. Tap \u201cDone\u201d when you\u2019ve made the selection.<\/p>\n

Next, you can decide how to use the sunrise\/sunset time. Select \u201cWhen the Sun Sets\u201d or \u201cWhen the Sun\u00a0Rises.\u201d<\/p>\n

If you don\u2019t want the alarm to be exactly at sunrise or sunset, you can choose an offset here. Select \u201cDone\u201d when you\u2019ve made a selection.<\/p>\n

The next thing to do is to decide which days the routine will run on. Tap the days to select them.<\/p>\n

This process creates an alert on your Android device, but you can also choose to play the alert over any Google smart speakers.<\/p>\n

Lastly (and this is the important part if you want the alert on your Android device), toggle on \u201cGet notified on your phone when this routine starts.\u201d Tap \u201cDone\u201d to finish.<\/p>\n

At the time of writing, Google requires a voice command to be associated with every routine. We won\u2019t be using this to start the routine, but it\u2019s still needed. This is also what the name of the routine will be. Tap \u201cAdd Voice Starter.\u201d<\/p>\n

Enter a command phrase and tap \u201cDone.\u201d<\/p>\n

In order for the routine to run, it needs something to do. Tap \u201cAdd Action\u201d to get started.<\/p>\n

Select \u201cCommunicate and Announce.\u201d<\/p>\n

\"Select<\/p>\n

Next, check the box for \u201cSay Something\u201d and tap the arrow icon.<\/p>\n

Enter anything you\u2019d like here. If you added a smart speaker, this is the phrase that Google Assistant will announce. Tap \u201cDone\u201d when you\u2019re ready.<\/p>\n

\"Enter<\/p>\n

Select the \u201cDone\u201d button again on the next screen.<\/p>\n

\"Tap<\/p>\n

Now, you can select \u201cSave\u201d to finalize the routine.<\/p>\n

\"Select<\/p>\n

If you didn\u2019t select a speaker during setup, Google will ask to make sure that you don\u2019t want to use one. Tap \u201cNo Speaker\u201d if you\u2019re sure.<\/p>\n

\"Choose<\/p>\n

Note:<\/strong> A notification will ask you to add a speaker when this routine runs. You can ignore it, as it\u2019s not necessary for our situation.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n

That\u2019s it! The routine will now run at your desired time, and you will get a notification when it does. While this might not be quite the same as an \u201calarm,\u201d it does still alert you.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n
