A white, New York City psychoanalyst is under fire after publishing a report decrying his skin color as a \u201cmalignant, parasitic like condition\u201d without a \u201cpermanent cure.\u201d<\/p>\n

Dr. Donald Moss \u2014 a published author who teaches at the New York Psychoanalytic Institute \u2014 published \u201cOn Having Whiteness\u201d<\/a> last month in the Journal of the American Psychoanalytic Association.<\/p>\n

\u201cWhiteness is a condition one first acquires and then one\u00a0has\u00a0<\/em>\u2014 a malignant, parasitic-like condition to which \u201cwhite\u201d people have a particular susceptibility,\u201d an abstract of the article on Sage Journals says.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe condition is foundational, generating characteristic ways of being in one\u2019s body, in one\u2019s mind, and in one\u2019s world.\u00a0<\/p>\n

\u201cParasitic Whiteness renders its hosts\u2019 app<\/a>etites voracious, insatiable, and perverse,\u201d states the paper, also published<\/a> on the National Library of Medicine\u2019s PubMed site.<\/p>\n

The \u201cdeformed appetites particularly target nonwhite peoples,\u201d the abstract says \u2014 and \u201conce established, these appetites are nearly impossible to eliminate.\u201d<\/p>\n

While \u201ceffective treatment consists of a combination of psychic and social<\/a>-historical interventions,\u201d there is \u201cno guarantee against regression.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cThere is not yet a permanent cure,\u201d the abstract says.<\/p>\n

The article sparked outrage online, including among other academics in the same field.<\/p>\n

\u201cHow do my colleagues consider this scholarship? Anyone actuality take this seriously?\u201d tweeted<\/a> Pennsylvania-based clinical psychologist\u00a0Dr. Philip Pellegrino.<\/p>\n

Many others even doubted it was a real study until they confirmed that it was officially published.<\/p>\n

\u201cI was skeptical so I looked it up, and yeah this is real and now I want to throw my Psychology degree in the garbage,\u201d one person tweeted<\/a>.<\/p>\n

\u201cThis racist vomit<\/a> should be called out for what it is,\u201d someone else wrote, saying, \u201cThis is the lowest and most dangerous form of racism masquerading as academic discourse. Shameful.\u201d<\/p>\n

Moss, listed in the article as still being based in Manhattan, has previously spoken about the same subject at the Center for Modern Psychoanalytic Studies<\/a>.<\/p>\n

In his bio for the American Psychoanalytic Association<\/a>, he said his work from the mid-1980s has been trying to \u201cunderstand and dismantle structured forms of hatred \u2026 racism, homophobia, misogyny and xenophobia.\u201d<\/p>\n

Moss did not immediately respond to emails requesting comment.\n <\/p><\/div>\n
