Fans are in shock after a beloved monkey with nearly 18 million TikTok followers died unexpectedly Monday following a routine checkup at the dentist. <\/p>\n

The 12-year-old primate named George \u2014 who blew up the internet <\/a>with his box-opening skills and other shockingly anthropomorphic behaviors \u2014 reportedly succumbed to complications from anesthesia.<\/p>\n

The anonymous Texas-based couple who had owned the capuchin monkey for 10 years shared the \u201cdevastating news<\/a>\u201d in a moving TikTok statement<\/a> with over 16.3 million views: <\/p>\n

\u201cGeorge went to the vet for a regular check up on his teeth,\u201d they captioned the heart-rending clip. \u201cDuring, there were complications with the anesthesia, starting a long fight for his life.\u201d<\/p>\n

Aside from box opening, the clever monkey \u2014 who was known. as \u201cheresyourmonkeycontent<\/a>\u201d\u00a0online \u2014 has been filmed playing in a ball pit, grinning while eating popcorn in bed and figuring out how to plug in a light-up pole gifted to him by a TikTok follower. <\/p>\n
