\nCount Tanner Tolbert<\/strong> as one of the people who is not<\/em> on board with where The Bachelor<\/em> is going following longtime host\u00a0Chris Harrison<\/strong>\u2018s departure.<\/p>\n

The\u00a0Bachelorette<\/em> alum \u2014 who infamously met his wife,\u00a0Jade Roper Tolbert<\/strong>, on\u00a0Bachelor In Paradise<\/em> \u2014 spoke out on Wednesday night, sharing some VERY strong opinions about the future of the reality TV show that changed his life!<\/p>\n

Acknowledging that app<\/a>earing on the Bachelor<\/em> franchise helped him start his family, and so of course he wanted the show to do well, Tanner argued that focusing too much on the host (any<\/em> host) was a surefire path to failure.<\/p>\n

He revealed that he\u2019s actually worried about the future of the longtime\u00a0ABC<\/em> mainstay, saying (below):<\/p>\n

\u201cI think the Bachelor<\/em> franchise needs to figure their s**t out, and figure it out quick. Because I think the show is on a slippery slope right now, and I \u2014 as a fan of the show, first and foremost \u2014 I want to see it keep going. But I think all this host drama is just starting to get ridiculous.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n

Wow!<\/p>\n

Referencing the reported decision to let actor\u00a0David Spade<\/strong> host the upcoming season of\u00a0Bachelor in Paradise<\/em>, the 34-year-old dad and husband said (below):<\/p>\n

\u201cDon\u2019t get me wrong \u2026 I loved David Spade in Tommy Boy<\/em> \u2026 but I could care less about him handing out date cards or giving commentary. We watch the show to see the relationships and drama \u2026 Not to see this \u2018host\u2019 circus. It takes away from the purpose of the show in my opinion.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n

An interesting take!<\/p>\n

Shoot, maybe he\u2019s got a point there. After all, the show has gotten really<\/em> drama-heavy in recent seasons and it seems like more and more contestants have used the platform as a springboard to hawk products on\u00a0Instagram<\/strong> than to actually find love.<\/p>\n

The reality TV alum continued on from there, being very clear to point out his take wasn\u2019t a defense of Harrison, but rather an argument that any<\/em> host the producers choose should fill a very specific role on screen:<\/p>\n

\u201cThe host doesn\u2019t need to be the star of the show. It\u2019s as simple as that. The host is the host. The host needs to be the backbone of the show and fill a role. I don\u2019t need to see commentary on every little thing and have everything be a joke. I want to watch The Bachelor<\/em> and The Bachelorette<\/em> and Bachelor in Paradise<\/em> for the drama and for the relationships and see that unfold on the screen. I don\u2019t care about this pre-planned, contrived BS.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n

FWIW, Tolbert did rave about the \u201cgreat energy\u201d that\u00a0Kaitlyn Bristowe<\/strong> and\u00a0Tayshia Adams<\/strong> brought to the first week of this summer\u2019s new Bachelorette<\/em> season, saying they \u201ccould be\u201d great hosts in the right situation.<\/p>\n

But the young dad was firm in his biggest point: that the show needs to be about love and relationships, not gags, gimmicks, or jokes.<\/p>\n

Tanner concluded:<\/p>\n

\u201cI just want to watch real people meet on screen for the first time, date and then let the show take the twist and turns that unfold from there. The show used to do a good job of letting the drama unfold in real-time, and then making storylines out of that. Now, I feel like they\u2019re trying to force the show down a set of tracks of what they think is good tv, and it\u2019s coming off wrong.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n

Well then!<\/p>\n
