Some of the attendees who attended the Bitcoin 2021 event in Miami last weekend have tested positive for Covid-19 after returning home from the conference, leading to a wave of negative media coverage and social media<\/a> speculation it could turn into a \u201csuper spreader event.\u201d<\/p>\n

Bloomberg called Miami Bitcoin a “Covid hot spot” while Gizmodo reported the conference “May be the latest COVID-19 super spreader event.”<\/p>\n

Arcane Research CIO, Eric Wall, was among those to contract the virus, tweeting<\/a> earlier today that he underwent a CT-scan after suffering from a \u201chigh fever\u201d and \u201cchest pains,\u201d with medical staff having suspected he may have a blood clot in his lungs. No blood clot was found, with Wall having been discharged from hospital and returned home.<\/p>\n

Luke Martin of automated trading software developer, Coinist, also admitted<\/a> to testing positive for COVID-19.<\/p>\n

According to CNBC<\/a>, at least 12,000 people attended the event \u2014 which did not require proof of vaccination or enforce a mask mandate. The event lasted for three days at Miami’s Mana Wynwood convention center, cramming into crowded auditoriums while social distancing was not enforced.<\/p>\n

The event was Miami’s first major conference since the beginning of the pandemic. According to a New York Times<\/a> report lines to enter the building \u201cstretched for more than a mile.\u201d<\/p>\n

Miami mayor and Bitcoin proponent, Francis Suarez, spoke at the event, and was introduced on-stage as \u201cprobably the most irresponsible politician in all of America,\u201d and \u201cthe mayor of the meccas of freedom.\u201d <\/p>\n
