“#Dear EV makers, the pope doesn\u2019t need any more electric popemobiles<\/strong>”<\/p>\n

A few days ago, Nissan donated<\/a> an all-electric LEAF sedan to the Vatican to help the small state in its environmental goal to gradually replace its service vehicles with an all-electric fleet.<\/p>\n

It\u2019s part of Pope Francis\u2019 commitment to turn the Vatican carbon neutral by 2050, as he announced in December 2020<\/a>. The Church also plans to increase the\u00a0number of charging stations, especially around several of the major basilicas in Rome.<\/span><\/p>\n

Pope Francis has supported environmental initiatives since the beginning of his service, and it comes as no surprise that the Nissan LEAF isn\u2019t the first green vehicle gifted to him.<\/p>\n

In October 2020, the Pope received\u00a0a hydrogen-powered Toyota Mirai<\/a> from the Catholic Bishops\u2019 Conference of Japan (CBCJ). Similarly, in May,\u00a0EV startup Fisker designed for Francis an all-electric car<\/a>, based on the company\u2019s Ocean SUV, which will feature a solar roof and an interior made from recyclable plastic bottles.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n
