MINNEAPOLIS \u2014 Jameson Taillon is one pitcher who is pleased Major League Baseball app<\/a>ears set to finally reduce \u2014 if not eliminate \u2014 foreign substances being permitted.<\/p>\n

\u201cI\u2019m really excited for it,\u2019\u2019 the right-hander said Thursday before the Yankees\u2019 7-5 loss to the Twins at Target Field. \u201cI think it\u2019s gonna help talented teams. \u2026 I know it sounds crazy, but eliminating sticky stuff is actually gonna help us going forward.\u201d<\/p>\n

Taillon said he\u2019s confident his teammates don\u2019t rely on Spider Tack or some of the other substances pitchers have turned to in recent years, despite the accusations of players like Minnesota\u2019s Josh Donaldson, who called out Gerrit Cole after his spin rate dropped as the impending crackdown grows closer.<\/p>\n

Asked if he thought this was similar to trying to take steroids and other PEDs out of the game<\/a>, Taillon said, \u201cI don\u2019t know how much it enhances performance. I\u2019m curious now if everyone goes clean, what the numbers are going forward.\u201d<\/p>\n

And Taillon, who next starts in Philadelphia on Saturday, said while MLB is coming down on illegal substances, it should at least temporarily ban all substances, including rosin \u2014 which he said he doesn\u2019t use.<\/p>\n

\u201cIf we\u2019re gonna do this, completely eliminate it for now,\u2019\u2019 Taillon said. \u201cIf guys start getting hit [by pitches] more than already are, then evaluate it.\u201d<\/p>\n

He agreed with Giancarlo Stanton, who said Wednesday night it was easy to tell when pitches were doing things they weren\u2019t supposed to.<\/p>\n

\u201cIf you watch a big league game, it\u2019s pretty noticeable the guys who are using it and not afraid of getting caught with it,\u2019\u2019 Taillon said. \u201cSome guys are sneaky about it and other guys have no fear about going to their glove.\u201d<\/p>\n

If it seems unusual for a pitcher to come out in favor of the enforcement change, Taillon said he wouldn\u2019t have come out against it had it not already become an issue. Now that it has, he said it\u2019s \u201cgetting out of control.\u201d<\/p>\n

Cole pitched well Wednesday in his first start since Donaldson levied the thinly veiled accusations against him.<\/p>\n

\u201cI think this may have lit a fire under him,\u2019\u2019 Taillon said of Cole. \u201cI don\u2019t think some sticky stuff is what makes Gerrit Cole, Gerrit Cole.\u201d<\/p>\n

Cole declined to answer when asked if he\u2019d ever used Spider Tack. Taillon, when asked if he\u2019d ever used \u2014 or been tempted to use it \u2014 said he \u201cmessed around with\u201d the substance when a friend gave him some while he was rehabbing from Tommy John surgery.<\/p>\n

\u201cI couldn\u2019t even throw the ball with it,\u2019\u2019 Taillon said. \u201cIt gave me the yips. It freaked me out. That was enough for me. Some people can figure out how to make that stuff work. For me, that wasn\u2019t the answer. I think it\u2019s gonna be fun to have a fair playing field. I think it\u2019ll be good for the game.\u201d\n <\/p><\/div>\n
