Google Recorder is sneakily one of the search giant\u2019s coolest app<\/a>s on Pixel smartphones. It can transcribe audio recordings into text, which makes them easily searchable, and those recordings can be accessed and shared from the cloud<\/a>, too. We\u2019ll show you how.<\/p>\n

If you\u2019re unfamiliar with Google Recorder, it\u2019s an exclusive app for Pixel phones. The app has some powerful features hidden behind a simple interface. If it\u2019s enabled, your recordings\u2014along with the transcriptions\u2014can be stored at recorder.google.com<\/a>. Here\u2019s a recording example<\/a> I made.<\/p>\n

To get started, open the Recorder app<\/a> on your Google Pixel device. You\u2019ll need a Pixel 3 or newer to take advantage of the cloud features.<\/p>\n

If this is your first time opening the app, you\u2019ll see a splash screen with information about what it can do. Tap \u201cGet Started.\u201d<\/p>\n

The app will now ask if you\u2019d like to back up your recordings to the cloud. Tap \u201cBack Up Recordings\u201d to proceed.<\/p>\n

To make an audio recording, simply tap the red button at the bottom of the screen.<\/p>\n

Tap the pause button when you\u2019re done to stop recording.<\/p>\n

You can choose to add your location to the recording, which will be used when you\u2019re searching through recordings. Do so by selecting the \u201cAdd Location\u201d button.<\/p>\n

After that, you can add a title to the recording file and tap \u201cSave\u201d to finish.<\/p>\n

There are two ways that you can share a recording: from the app or the website. We\u2019ll start with the app. Tap and hold a recording from the list.<\/p>\n

The recording will now be highlighted (as indicated by the check mark). Select any other recordings to share, and then tap the share icon in the top bar.<\/p>\n
