“#How to Insert a Word Document into OneNote Notes”<\/strong><\/p>\n

Microsoft OneNote allows you to insert a Word document as an attachment in your Notebook. If you update the Word document, you can reflect those changes in the Notebook with just a few clicks. Here\u2019s how.<\/p>\n

First, launch OneNote and open the Notebook that you would like to insert a Word document into. If you haven\u2019t already created a Notebook, you can do so by choosing File > New from the menu bar.<\/p>\n

Next, click the \u201cInsert\u201d tab. There are three options in the \u201cFiles\u201d group, but we\u2019re only going to be using two of them. On Windows, those options are called \u201cFile Printout\u201d and \u201cFile Attachment.\u201d If you\u2019re using a Mac, you\u2019ll see \u201cPDF Printout\u201d and \u201cFile Attachment.\u201d<\/p>\n

\"File<\/p>\n

\u201cFile Attachment\u201d inserts a link pointing to the original file. \u201cFile Printout\u201d (or \u201cPDF Printout\u201d) inserts a link and also adds the content within the file to your Note.<\/p>\n

What the latter two options do is take a snapshot of the content (exactly as it would app<\/a>ear if you were to print it out\u2014hence the name \u201cPrintout\u201d) and inserts it as an image. Both \u201cPDF Printout\u201d and \u201cFile Printout\u201d work the same way. However, \u201cPDF Printout\u201d is limited to just PDFs. Since this topic covers inserting a Word document, we won\u2019t be using \u201cPDF Printout.\u201d<\/p>\n

In our example, we\u2019ll use \u201cFile Printout.\u201d So, in the \u201cInsert\u201d tab, click \u201cFile Printout.\u201d<\/p>\n

A file open dialog will appear. Navigate to the location of the file and select it, and then click \u201cInsert.\u201d<\/p>\n

A link to the original file and the printout will appear in the Notebook.<\/p>\n

\"Attachment<\/p>\n

You can\u2019t directly edit the content of the printout within OneNote itself. You\u2019ll need to update it directly in the source file. Once you\u2019ve updated the source file, you can update the printout in your Notebook to reflect the changes by right-clicking the document link and choosing \u201cRefresh Printout\u201d from the context menu.<\/p>\n

The content in the printout will refresh and reflect the current content of the original file.<\/p>\n
