A good Samaritan chased down a mugger who punched a woman and snatched her cellphone in Central Park on Friday \u2014 and the do-gooder was able to retrieve the stolen item, according to cops and police sources. <\/p>\n

The hero jumped into action after witnessing the shocking broad-daylight attack on the East Drive at 110th Street.<\/p>\n

The 40-year-old victim had been sitting on a bench and sending text messages at around 10 a.m. \u2014 when a man came up to her and tried to grab her iPhone 11, police and sources said.<\/p>\n

A struggle ensued and the punk punched the woman in the face, knocking her to the ground, \u2014 before he darted off, cops said.<\/p>\n

But the witness took off after him and somehow managed to get the phone back and return it to the woman, according to sources and cops, who weren\u2019t immedia<\/a>tely able to provide more details about the heroic effort.<\/p>\n

The victim refused medical attention at the scene, police said. <\/p>\n

She wiped off her phone with hand sanitizer after it was returned, and police could not collect fingerprints, according to sources.<\/p>\n

A second witness snapp<\/a>ed a picture of the suspect, who was described by sources as in his 40s and wearing a light purple hooded sweatshirt.\n <\/p><\/div>\n
