A Virginia teenager showed her estranged father the meaning of good \u201ccents\u201d and maturity.<\/p>\n

Avery Sanford hadn\u2019t seen her dad in years when he dropped off his final child support payment last month \u2014 dumping 80,000 pennies on his ex-wife\u2019s lawn, according to News 6 Richmond<\/a>.<\/p>\n

\u201cI just turned 18. When I was in the middle of class, my dad came by. He had rented a trailer,\u201d Sanford told the outlet. <\/p>\n

Her penny-hoarding dad \u201cpulled up in front of the house and turned the trailer on so it dumped out all the pennies on the grass,\u201d she recalled.<\/p>\n

\u201cAnd my mom came out and was like, \u2018What are you dumping in my yard?\u2019 She didn\u2019t know who it was until he shouted, \u2018It\u2019s your final child support payment.\u201d<\/p>\n

Instead of getting mad, the high school senior decided to set aside the copper delivery for charity, according to the report.<\/p>\n

The family picked up every penny and plans to donate all $800 to Safe Harbor, a domestic abuse center.<\/p>\n

\u201cIt\u2019s not just my mom he\u2019s trying to embarrass, it\u2019s also me and my sister and it\u2019s upsetting that he didn\u2019t consider that before he did that,\u201d the teen told the station.\u00a0<\/p>\n

\u201cTurning around and donating that money to moms and children in need, I feel like that really turns this situation into a positive. You can learn from it.\u201d\u00a0<\/p>\n

Her father told the station he acted out of 18 years of pent-up frustration and \u201cthe last thing he wanted to do\u201d was push his daughter further away.\n <\/p><\/div>\n
