President Biden said Sunday that the G-7 has taken \u201cplenty of action\u201d against China\u2019s human rights abuses against 1 million Uighurs in the country. <\/p>\n

Bloomberg reporter Jennifer Jacobs pressed Biden on whether the G-7 leaders\u2019 response to China\u2019s alleged human rights violations in Xinjiang Province was strong enough.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe final language in the G-7 communique does have some mention of China \u2026 but I know it\u2019s not as tough as you and your team wanted it to be. \u2026 Why isn\u2019t it as tough? There isn\u2019t very much action in it,\u201d Jacobs asked.<\/p>\n

\u201cAs you know, the last time the G-7 met, there was no mention of China. But this time, there is mention of China,\u201d Biden answered in a post-summit solo press conference. <\/p>\n

\u201cThe G-7 explicitly agreed to call out human rights abuses in Xinjiang and Hong Kong. I know this is going to sound somewhat prosaic, but I think we\u2019re in a contest, not with China per se, but a contest with autocrats, autocratic governments around the world, as to whether or not democracies can compete with them in the rapidly changing 21st century.<\/p>\n

\u201cI think there\u2019s plenty of action on China,\u201d he insisted. <\/p>\n

Biden earlier attended Mass and in the late afternoon headed to Windsor Castle for tea with Queen Elizabeth.<\/p>\n

The Chinese government has been accused of enslaving and abusing about 1 million Uighurs, which the government has denied. The Biden administration has attempted to center the seven-country summit around infrastructure and China\u2019s abuses of the ethnic minority and others. <\/p>\n

\u201cPresident Biden and leaders agreed to a set of concrete actions around key priorities responding to forced labor in global supply chains, the ransomware threat, and fighting corruption,\u201d the White House stated Sunday of the summit.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe United States and our G7 partners remain deeply concerned by the use of all forms of forced labor in global supply chains, including state-sponsored forced labor of vulnerable groups and minorities and supply chains of the agricultural, solar, and garment sectors \u2014 the main supply chains of concern in Xinjiang.\u201d<\/p><\/div>\n
