MTA cops foiled three drivers in the span of just 30 minutes last week when the fraudsters tried to use fake temporary license plates to evade the toll on the RFK Bridge, officials said.<\/p>\n

Bridge officers thwarted the first failed attempt \u2014 a fake temporary plate claiming to be registered in New Jersey \u2014 at around 9:30 a.m. Wednesday, officials said. <\/p>\n

The cops then spotted a fake Texas plate just 10 minutes later, followed by a second fake New Jersey plate at 9:50 p.m.<\/p>\n

All three motorists are New York residents, the MTA said, and face misdemeanor charges with a potential sentence of up to a year in jail or a $1,000 fine.<\/p>\n

Law enforcement sources said crooked drivers routinely attempt to evade tolls using falsified temporary plates, which can be fabricated using a home or office printer.<\/p>\n

Fake New Jersey and Texas plates are especially common in New York, sources said.<\/p>\n

Wednesday\u2019s arrest were part of a \u201ctargeted initiative\u201d that relied on \u201cintelligence and review of fraudulent use patterns of travel<\/a>,\u201d the MTA said.<\/p>\n

\u201cUse of fraudulent license plates is a crime that equates to lost revenue for the MTA and is unfair to law-abiding motorists,\u201d\u00a0MTA Bridges and Tunnels President Daniel F. DeCrescenzo Jr. said in a statement. <\/p>\n

\u201cWe have the staff and technology<\/a> to identify and app<\/a>rehend these individuals, as we have with these arrests.\u201d\n <\/p><\/div>\n
