Kristen Welker\u2019s baby girl has arrived.<\/p>\n

NBC News<\/a>\u2019 chief White House correspondent and husband John Hughes welcomed a daughter named Margot Lane Welker Hughes via surrogate on Saturday. <\/p>\n

\u201cMargot truly is the love of our lives,\u201d Welker, 44, wrote in an email to the \u201cToday\u201d show<\/a> that was shared on Monday\u2019s show. \u201cSeeing her precious face and looking into her eyes has made every minute of our journey.\u201d<\/p>\n

Welker added that she and Hughes, a marketing executive, stayed in a hospital room next to their surrogate\u2019s.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe stayed in rooms next to each other and visited throughout so that we and little Margot could thank her for bringing Margot into the world,\u201d Welker explained.<\/p>\n

Baby Margot, who weighed 8 pounds and 6 ounces, was named after Welker\u2019s grandmother Margaret. Lane is a family moniker on Hughes\u2019 side. <\/p>\n

Welker and Hughes, who have been married since 2017, confirmed in April that they were expecting their first child via surrogate after years of infertility struggles.<\/p>\n

Ahead of Margot\u2019s birth, Welker penned a letter to her daughter<\/a> that she hoped would \u201cone day explain her extraordinary journey.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cYour daddy and I have learned so many lessons trying to bring you here and we want to share them with you: Every journey is unique; don\u2019t compare yourself to others. There will be heartbreaks in life; some won\u2019t ever fully heal, others will make you stronger. It is OK to ask for help; in fact, it can be empowering,\u201d Welker wrote. <\/p>\n

\u201cFamilies are made in all different ways, come in all different shapes and sizes, and all families should be celebrated. And, finally, while I didn\u2019t carry you in my body, I have always carried you in my heart and I will always be your mommy,\u201d she continued.\n <\/p><\/div>\n
