In the future, the company envisions the bot carrying large and heavy items or carts across a site, reducing the strain on its human coworkers.<\/p>\n<p><iframe loading=\"lazy\" title=\"&quot;Bert&quot; carries items across an Amazon warehouse\" width=\"640\" height=\"360\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/LLNYtZer1e4?feature=oembed\" frameborder=\"0\" allow=\"accelerometer; autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture; web-share\" referrerpolicy=\"strict-origin-when-cross-origin\" allowfullscreen><\/iframe><\/p>\n<p>Ernie, meanwhile, is a workstation system that removes totes from robotic shelves and then deliveries them to employees.<\/p>\n<p><span>\u201cThe innovation with a robot like Ernie is interesting because while it doesn\u2019t make the process go any faster, we\u2019re optimistic, based on our testing, it can make our facilities safer for employees,\u201d said Kevin Keck worldwide director of Advanced <a href=\"https:\/\/buradabiliyorum.com\/en\/category\/technology\/\" data-internallinksmanager029f6b8e52c=\"4\" title=\"Technology\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Technology<\/a> at Amazon.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><iframe loading=\"lazy\" title=\"&quot;Ernie&quot; delivers totes to employees at an Amazon fulfillment center\" width=\"640\" height=\"360\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/flcrX_eWpLo?feature=oembed\" frameborder=\"0\" allow=\"accelerometer; autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture; web-share\" referrerpolicy=\"strict-origin-when-cross-origin\" allowfullscreen><\/iframe><\/p>\n<p>The duo may one day be joined at work by another pair of robot colleagues: Scooter and Kermit, which transport carts across facilities.<\/p>\n<p>Amazon said it plans to deploy Scooter in at least one Amazon facility this year, and introduce Kermit in a minimum of 12 North American sites.<\/p>\n<p><span><em>[Read:\u00a0Why entrepreneurship in emerging markets matters]<\/em><\/span><\/p>\n<p>The robots were unveiled amid growing concerns about worker safety at Amazon. Earlier this month, a union-backed report on safety data found serious injury rates at the company were\u00a0almost 80% higher than the rest of the industry.<\/p>\n<p>Amazon has previously been <a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/revealnews.org\/article\/how-amazon-hid-its-safety-crisis\/\">accused<\/a> of deceiving the public about the rising injury rates in its warehouses. But in recent months, the company has begun to publicly acknowledge the problem.<\/p>\n<p>In April, Jeff Bezos revealed another system designed to\u00a0improve worker safety:\u00a0an algorithm that rotates staff around tasks that use different body parts.<\/p>\n<p>These initiatives are unlikely to discourage accusations that Amazon treats workers like robots. But hopefully, the systems can provide some support for their overworked\u00a0human colleagues \u2014 and don\u2019t end up replacing them.<\/p>\n<p><em>Greetings Humanoids!
