{"id":274567,"date":"2021-06-14T23:54:59","date_gmt":"2021-06-14T20:54:59","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/en.buradabiliyorum.com\/nato-members-vow-to-counter-threats-from-china-russia\/"},"modified":"2021-06-14T23:54:59","modified_gmt":"2021-06-14T20:54:59","slug":"nato-members-vow-to-counter-threats-from-china-russia","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/buradabiliyorum.com\/en\/nato-members-vow-to-counter-threats-from-china-russia\/","title":{"rendered":"#NATO members vow to counter threats from China, Russia"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>&#8220;<strong>#NATO members vow to counter threats from China, Russia<\/strong>&#8221;<\/p>\n<div>\n<p>\u200bNATO members vowed to engage with China to counter Beijing\u2019s expanding military might around the world and warned Moscow there will be no return to \u201cbusiness as usual\u201d as long as it continues to violate international norms and threaten members of the 30-nation alliance.<\/p>\n<p>The <a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/nato.cmail19.com\/t\/ViewEmail\/r\/E73A47868F05B0362540EF23F30FEDED\/7EA4C1B8DE18BB6AA7F290B8E8FDC6A0\">communique<\/a> released at the close of the NATO summit in Brussels, Belgium, on Monday that was attended by President Biden and a host of world leaders emphasized that the alliance would challenge China\u2019s increasing influence militarily, economically and politically.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cChina\u2019s stated ambitions and assertive behavior present systemic challenges to the rules-based international order and to areas relevant to alliance security,\u201d the 79-point communique said.<\/p>\n<p>The NATO nations said they were concerned by China\u2019s military cooperation with Russia, as well as its \u201clack of transparency and use of disinformation.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cChina is rapidly expanding its nuclear arsenal with more warheads and a larger number of sophisticated delivery systems to establish a nuclear triad. It is opaque in implementing its military modernization and its publicly declared military-civil fusion strategy,\u201d the communique said.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe call on China to uphold its international commitments and to act responsibly in the international system, including in the space, cyber, and maritime domains, in keeping with its role as a major power\u200b,\u201d it Russia, NATO noted that it has worked for more than 25 years to build a partnership with Moscow but that Russia \u201ccontinues to breach the values, principles, trust, and commitments outlined in agreed documents that underpin the NATO-Russian relationship.\u201d \u200b<\/p>\n<p>\u201cUntil Russia demonstrates compliance with international law and its international obligations and responsibilities, there can be no return to \u200b\u2019\u200bbusiness as usual\u200b.\u2019\u200b\u00a0 We will continue to respond to the deteriorating security environment by enhancing our deterrence and defense posture, including by a forward presence in the eastern part of the Allianc\u200be,\u201d the communique said.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cNATO does not seek confrontation and poses no threat to Russia\u200b,\u201d it continued. \u200b<\/p>\n<p>The members also said Russia\u2019s expanding military presence on NATO borders, the build up in Crimea, military cooperation with Belarus and \u201crepeated violations of NATO Allied airspace\u201d threaten the security of the Euro-Atlantic area and contribute to instability.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Biden called out China and Russia during a meeting with NATO Secretary-<a href=\"https:\/\/buradabiliyorum.com\/en\/category\/general\/\" data-internallinksmanager029f6b8e52c=\"3\" title=\"General\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">General<\/a> Jens Stoltenberg.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThere is a growing recognition over the last couple years that we have new challenges,\u201d Biden said. \u201cWe have Russia, which is Images<\/span><\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>And Germany Chancellor Angela Merkel said NATO must keep an eye on China as a potential threat, as well.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIf you look at the cyber threats and the hybrid threats, if you look at the cooperation between Russia and China, you cannot simply ignore China,\u201d Merkel told reporters. \u201cBut one must not overrate it, either \u2013 we need to find the right balance,\u201d said Merkel, who attended her final NATO summit before stepping down in September.<\/p>\n<p>The alliance also reaffirmed its commitment to Article 5, the collective defense pledge that considers an attack against one NATO member and\u00a0attack on all members.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe greatest responsibility of the Alliance is to protect and defend our territory and our populations against attack, as set out in Article 5 of the Washington Treaty. No one should doubt NATO\u2019s resolve if the security of any of its members were to be threatened. Faced with a highly diverse, complex, and demanding international security environment, NATO is determined to maintain the full range of capabilities necessary to deter and defend against any threat to the safety and security of our populations, wherever it should arise,\u201d the communique said.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>The NATO allies said they would work to counter the \u201cevolving challenge\u201d present in the cyber and ransomware attacks that have targeted the\u00a0private and public sectors, including in the US.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cReaffirming NATO\u2019s defensive mandate, the Alliance is determined to employ the full range of capabilities at all times to actively deter, defend against, and counter the full spectrum of cyber threats, including those conducted as part of hybrid campaigns, in accordance with international law,\u201d the communique said.\u00a0\n            <\/p><\/div>\n<blockquote><p><strong><span style=\"color: #ff6600;\">If you liked the article, do not forget to share it with your friends.
