class=\"paywall\">\n<p>Separate studies from researchers in England and Scotland published Monday found that while protection against infection was somewhat diminished against delta compared with more established variants, two doses of vaccine offered considerable protection against severe illness and hospitalization.<\/p>\n<p>The findings are the latest indicating that COVID-19 vaccines are able to protect people against new variants, despite early concerns that the variants might be able to elude them.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Coronavirus Update:<\/strong> U.K. to delay reopening as delta variant accounts for 90% of cases and U.S. court upholds mandatory vaccination<\/p>\n<p>\u201cVaccine effectiveness against delta is still very, very substantial,\u201d said Aziz Sheikh, director of the University of Edinburgh\u2019s Usher Institute of medicine and the lead author of one the two analyses.<\/p>\n<p>An analysis of more than 14,000 delta cases by England\u2019s public health agency found a double dose of the shot developed by\u00a0Pfizer\u00a0Inc.\u00a0<br \/>\n        PFE,<br \/>\n        <bg-quote field=\"percentchange\" format=\"0,000.00%\" channel=\"\/zigman2\/quotes\/202877789\/composite\" class=\"negative\">-1.30%<\/bg-quote><br \/>\n       and\u00a0BioNTech SE\u00a0<br \/>\n        BNTX,<br \/>\n        <bg-quote field=\"percentchange\" format=\"0,000.00%\" channel=\"\/zigman2\/quotes\/214419716\/composite\" class=\"negative\">-7.53%<\/bg-quote><\/p>\n<p>        22UA,<br \/>\n        <bg-quote field=\"percentchange\" format=\"0,000.00%\" channel=\"\/zigman2\/quotes\/222361179\/delayed\" class=\"negative\">-7.87%<\/bg-quote><br \/>\n       reduces the risk of hospitalization after infection with Delta by 96%.
