A new fan theory about the animated childhood classic \u201cFinding Nemo\u201d smells a little fishy.<\/p>\n

Fans young and old will remember the heartbreaking scene in which clownfish Nemo is separated from his father.<\/p>\n

However, on the \u201cJust the Nobodys\u201d podcast, the hosts conjectured<\/a> that the character of Nemo never actually existed. In a \u201cBeautiful Mind\u201d-like twist of fate, Marlin \u2014 Nemo\u2019s father, voiced by Albert Brooks \u2014 has just been imagining his son as a way to cope with the loss of his wife, Nemo\u2019s mother, and their kids.<\/p>\n

It may sound ridiculous at first, but there could be some truth to this theory \u2014 at least according to the podcasters.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe word \u2018nemo\u2019 in Latin means \u2018no one,\u2019 \u201d they explained. \u201cSo Disney is literally telling the audience, \u2018We have a movie called \u201cFinding Nemo,\u201d but it actually means \u201cfinding no one,\u201d because Nemo\u2019s not real.\u2019 \u201d<\/p>\n

The podcasters rationalize that this reality could explain why it made sense for Marlin\u2019s Pacific-blue-tang sidekick, Dory (voiced by Ellen DeGeneres), to suffer from memory loss.\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n

\u201cThat\u2019s why Dory is such a good friend for Marlin: because she has short-term memory loss and can\u2019t remember that Nemo\u2019s not real.\u201d<\/p>\n

While it\u2019s true that \u201cNemo\u201d in Latin translates to \u201cno one,\u201d the name could have also been chosen to highlight the fact that Nemo was missing for a large portion of the movie.\u00a0<\/p>\n

After uploading on TikTok a clip of their podcast explaining the theory, the video\u2019s views skyrocketed to more than 19 million.<\/p>\n

Dubbed the \u201cFinding Nemo Theory,\u201d film fanatics seem to agree, even adding comments with their own speculations.<\/p>\n

\u201cClownfish will kill their own. So the part of the theory is that the dad killed the son and mom. And grieved by imagining,\u201d said one TikTok commenter.<\/p>\n

Some fans straight-up disagreed, saying the beloved character\u2019s nonexistence was impossible and poking holes in the theory.<\/p>\n

\u201cThis isn\u2019t true. What about the other fishes and humans that interacted with Nemo? Such as: the turtles, humans, and other fishes,\u201d wrote Dan Yang.<\/p>\n

As the clip ended, one host seemed utterly defeated, saying, \u201cThat didn\u2019t even ruin my day \u2014 that ruined my whole childhood.\u201d\n <\/p><\/div>\n
