The ubiquitous fast-food chain has offered free Wi-Fi since 2011, and you can still grab some caffeine along with a bite to eat.<\/p>\n<h2 role=\"heading\" aria-level=\"2\"><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"How_to_Get_Connected_with_McDonalds_Wi-Fi\"><\/span>How to Get Connected with McDonald\u2019s Wi-Fi<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h2>\n<p>It\u2019s pretty simple to log onto the Wi-Fi connection at your nearest McDonald\u2019s. The procedure is pretty much the same whether you\u2019re using Mac, Windows PC, Chromebook, iPhone, iPad, or Android phone.<\/p>\n<h3><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"Find_a_Location\"><\/span>Find a Location<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h3>\n<p>If you\u2019re on the road and not sure where the closest restaurant is, you can use <a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.mcdonalds.com\/us\/en-us\/restaurant-locator.html\">the McDonald\u2019s locator page<\/a>. Search by city, state, or ZIP code and head to the nearest location.<\/p>\n<p>You\u2019ll be able to see a list of features that each location offers. Make sure that the one you\u2019re heading to offers Wi-Fi. Most do, but it\u2019s possible for owners to shut it off at individual restaurants. Click the drop-down arrow next to \u201cservices\u201d and look for the Wi-Fi icon.<\/p>\n<p>Other useful information, like operating hours and the address, is displayed next to each result. Even if it\u2019s too early (or too late) for the location to be open, you might still be able to connect from the parking lot in an emergency.<\/p>\n<h3><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"Connect_to_the_Free_Wi-Fi\"><\/span><b>Connect to the Free Wi-Fi<\/b><span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h3>\n<p>Once you\u2019re within range of the network, you\u2019ll be able to see it in the Wi-Fi menu of your device. The network name should show up as \u201cMcDonald\u2019s Free Wi-Fi.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Connect to that Wi-Fi network, and a browser window should automatically open to the McDonald\u2019s website. Click the \u201cGet Connected\u201d button and a new browser page will load that says \u201cYou are connected to McDonald\u2019s Wi-Fi. Is it secure? Are there any browsing restrictions in place?<\/p>\n<h3><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"How_Fast_Is_McDonalds_Free_Wi-Fi\"><\/span>How Fast Is McDonald\u2019s Free Wi-Fi?<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h3>\n<p>Actually, pretty fast. Your speed will vary depending on the location, but tests using the <a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/fast.com\/\">Fast.com<\/a> internet speed checking tool have clocked up to 58 megabytes per second (Mbps)!<\/p>\n<p>That\u2019s fast enough to stream Netflix and have multiple other tabs open with no lag. Take appropriate measures to protect yourself online, like using a virtual private network (VPN) and avoiding pages that require you to enter sensitive information.<\/p>\n<p>Other security measures that you can take include only visiting sites with HTTPS encryption, which will prevent snooping (If you use Firefox, you can force it to only connect to HTTPS sites.) But there are a few things that you should try before reporting a bad connection to the front counter.<\/p>\n<h3><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"Choose_the_Right_Network\"><\/span>Choose the Right Network<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h3>\n<p>First, you\u2019ll want to make sure that you\u2019re connecting to the right network. There might be several network names with \u201cMcDonald\u2019s\u201d in them. There could also be some that just say \u201catt\u201d or \u201cattwifi,\u201d since McDonald\u2019s uses AT&amp;T for their Wi-Fi.<\/p>\n<p>Choose the network without a lock icon next to it that just says \u201cMcDonald\u2019s Free Wi-Fi.\u201d That\u2019s the public connection meant for guests.<\/p>\n<h3><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"Try_an_HTTP_Page\"><\/span>Try an HTTP Page<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h3>\n<p>Sometimes, navigating to a page marked as secure to log in to the network can prompt an error message. To get around that, navigate to a page with \u201cHTTP\u201d in the address and not \u201cHTTPS.\u201d This might allow you to log in and return to secure HTTPS browsing afterward.<\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"admonishment_tip\"><p><strong>Tip:<\/strong> If you need an easy, fast HTTP website to connect to, try <a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"http:\/\/example.com\/\">example.com<\/a>.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<h3><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"ResetRestart\"><\/span>Reset\/Restart<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h3>\n<p>If the connection still won\u2019t work, you can try resetting the wireless connection on your smartphone or device by disabling it, waiting about a minute, and then enabling it again. If that doesn\u2019t work, try restarting your device.<\/p>\n<p>If none of that helps, you could try a different browser.<\/p>\n<p>There are several more technical solutions that you can try if none of the above work, like forcing the browser to display a login page. Software company Auslogics offers <a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.auslogics.com\/en\/articles\/fix-public-wifi-login-page-not-showing-up\/\">some tips for getting a Wi-Fi login page to show up<\/a>. They work with Windows systems, but some of their solutions might be applicable to Mac.<\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"admonishment_tip\"><p><strong>Tip:<\/strong> Avoid squatting. Unless it\u2019s an emergency, don\u2019t sit for hours in the parking lot or restaurant using the free Wi-Fi connection without making at least a small purchase.
