This iconic game<\/a>-maker is creating a shrine for its legacy.<\/p>\n

Japanese gaming giant Nintendo has announced that it will transform a factory where it once manufactured games into a museum preserving the company\u2019s history.\u00a0<\/p>\n

\u201cNintendo Uji Ogura Plant (Ogura-cho, Uji-city, Kyoto) and the land surrounding the building will be used as a new gallery to showcase the many products Nintendo has launched over its history,\u201d Nintendo wrote in a press release<\/a>.\u00a0<\/p>\n

The company has been in talks since 2016 about \u201cthe possibility of building a gallery as a way to share Nintendo\u2019s product development history and philosophy with the public,\u201d the statement continues. \u201cThe Nintendo Uji Ogura Plant will be renovated to accommodate the gallery, a decision reached after taking consideration of The City of Uji\u2019s plan of re-developing the nearby Ogura Station area.\u201d<\/p>\n

The Nintendo Uji Ogura Plant, known simply as the \u201cUji Plant,\u201d was constructed in 1969 during a significant period of growth for the company, which began in 1889 as a handmade playing card business.\u00a0<\/p>\n

Despite Nintendo being primarily known today for its video game creations \u2014 including \u201cMario,\u201d \u201cDonkey Kong\u201d and consoles such as the Switch, Game Boy and Wii \u2014 the plant where its history will be displayed has primarily produced the company\u2019s playing cards. It was also a onetime customer-service center for product repairs.\u00a0<\/p>\n

The name \u201cNintendo Gallery\u201d has been tentatively selected for the planned museum, which will showcase historic products, \u201cexhibits and experiences.\u201d\u00a0<\/p>\n

Nintendo anticipates the gallery being completed by March 2024.\u00a0<\/p>\n

Meanwhile, Universal Studios\u2019 Nintendo theme<\/a> park opened in Japan in March<\/a>. The park\u2019s opening had been significantly delayed as a result of the coronavirus pandemic; it was initially intended to open ahead of the 2020 Tokyo Olympics.\u00a0\n <\/div>\n
