It was tough,\u201d said Singh, who was in the middle of her first year as coach. \u201c[We went] from a high-energy schedule to nothing.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The Kansas City native has been dancing since she was 5. Before joining the Brooklynettes in 2013, Singh performed onstage with artists like Beyonc\u00e9 and Alicia Keys. But the pandemic put a hard pause on her groove for the first time.<\/p>\n<p>Like most New Yorkers, she and her dancers spent the first few weeks of quarantine locked inside their respective homes, waiting out the uncertainty of the virus. (She joined the adult squad eight years ago, at 18.)<\/p>\n<p>\u201cOf course there were challenges,\u201d she added, noting spotty Wi-Fi setbacks and space restrictions. Some were also dealing with the stress of not being able to work at their second jobs during lockdown. \u201cA lot of us are professional actors and models, some are fitness trainers and some are cooks.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>But it finally got to the point that dancing in the house was too limiting.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cA lot of the time dancers would have to take the choreography that was given over Zoom to a bigger area to try it out,\u201d Gaccione said. In the pre-pandemic days, the women took center court to dazzle the crowd. Now, as regulations shift, they dance on two stages that were recently built inside the venue or on platforms right alongside the fans in the stands.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI cannot even explain the energy,\u201d Brooklynette co-captain Celine Edmondson \u2014\u00a0a 25-year-old pro dancer who performed with Maluma at the 2020 VMAs\u00a0\u2014 said of recent audiences. \u201cIt\u2019s unmatched.\u201d <\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe hear fans yelling, \u2018I love you Brooklynettes, you\u2019re the best!\u2019\u201d said Singh, who\u2019s typically on the sidelines watching her dancers\u2019 every move. \u201cYou can feel the exchange of energy between the fans and the dancers. It\u2019s been really incredible.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>There has been one challenge, she admitted: \u201cWe had to relearn how to dance with a mask on.<\/p>\n<p><!--If the slideshow is embedded in another post type add the inline wrapper --><\/p>\n<p>\u201cWhen it comes to performance quality [and] how to play up eye expression, I tell the ladies to keep smiling underneath the masks. It makes everything look more polished.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>But Gaccione said that, as with many of the past year\u2019s obstacles, this one has only made the Brooklynettes better.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt forced us to perform 10 times more with our bodies and our body language,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe fact that we were able to \u2026 come back in-person and be stronger than we even were, it\u2019s amazing.\u201d\n            <\/p><\/div>\n<blockquote><p><strong><span style=\"color: #ff6600;\">If you liked the article, do not forget to share it with your friends.
