Leftist: The Undying Pulse Nightclub Lie<\/strong><\/p>\n

Five years after the massacre at Orlando\u2019s Pulse nightclub, the American establishment continues to perpetuate \u201can absolute falsehood: namely, that the shooter, Omar Mateen, was motivated by anti-LGBT animus,\u201d sighs Glenn Greenwald at his Substack<\/a>. Fact is, \u201cMateen, like so many others who committed similar acts of violence, was motivated by rage over President [Barack] Obama\u2019s bombing campaigns in Syria, Iraq and Afghanistan, and chose Pulse at random, without even knowing it was a gay club.\u201d Yet liberal political and media<\/a> figures hold fast to the lie. \u201cIn the immediate aftermath,\u201d it \u201cmay have been reasonable for the public to speculate that Mateen, given his professed support for ISIS, chose Pulse because it was a gay club,\u201d which \u201cneatly played into a liberal \u00adpolitical agenda of highlighting anti-LGBT hate crimes.\u201d But \u201cjournalism is supposed to function on evidence, not speculation, and there never was any evidence that supported the storyline.\u201d<\/p>\n

From the right: The Feckless G-7<\/strong><\/p>\n

President Biden made very \u201cmodest progress\u201d at the G-7 summit \u201cin his effort to rally a united front against China\u2019s violations of global norms,\u201d concludes The Wall Street Journal editorial board<\/a>. Multilateralism\u2019s weakness is that it \u201crequires unity of purpose that can be defeated by the lowest common-denominator participant,\u201d and Europeans won\u2019t risk their money-making \u00adexports to China. In a statement of \u201cgauzy, hopeful rhetoric,\u201d summit leaders ask \u201cthe same WHO that failed in its first COVID-19 origin study to do another one \u2014 this time with .\u2009.\u2009. feeling?\u201d Please: \u201cChina won\u2019t be moved by feckless G-7 pleas for better behavior.\u201d<\/p>\n

Conservative: Shutdowns Killed Small Biz<\/strong><\/p>\n

\u201cCOVID shutdowns championed by\u201d governors and bureaucrats \u00addestroyed nearly 40 percent of small businesses \u2014 \u201cfor little to no damned good reason,\u201d fumes Victoria Taft at PJ Media<\/a>. Bureaucrats let big-box stores like Walmart and Costco remain open, giving them \u00ad\u201cessential\u201d status. But studies reveal \u201cshutdown orders made little to no difference in COVID\u2019s impact,\u201d proving \u201csmall businesses could have operated the entire time, exactly like big-box stores, had it not been for tyrants in statehouses and mayor\u2019s offices around the country.\u201d Small businesses, \u201cresponsible for 62 percent of all US jobs,\u201d are \u201cthe backbone of job creation.\u201d Their \u201centrepreneurial spirit\u201d was destroyed by the \u201cinsatiable desire by governors to micromanage the affairs of men.\u201d<\/p>\n

Iconoclast: NYC Previews Dems\u2019 Future<\/strong><\/p>\n

New York\u2019s mayoral primary is \u201ca preview of the future of the Democratic Party,\u201d declares Zaid Jilani at Persuasion<\/a>. Leading candidates Eric Adams and Andrew Yang \u201creflect the country\u2019s growing ethnic diversity,\u201d and estimates say just 36 percent of primary voters will be white. And like \u201cmany of the party\u2019s minority voters,\u201d Adams and Yang are \u201cideologically moderate,\u201d rejecting the far-left agenda, especially on criminal justice. \u201cSurely a progressive city like New York isn\u2019t crying out to get tough on crime,\u201d some might say, but polling shows it\u2019s \u201cthe single most important issue for a plurality of voters.\u201d Shootings are \u201cskyrocketing,\u201d and those \u201cin predominantly minority neighborhoods often bear the brunt\u201d of violent crime, with blacks making up 74 percent of Gotham\u2019s 2020 shooting victims. The Democratic Party\u2019s \u201ccultural diversity leads to ideological diversity, helping moderate it in\u201d New York and beyond.<\/p>\n

Libertarian: Feds\u2019 Lumber Follies<\/strong><\/p>\n

\u201cIn the midst of soaring prices and short supply of lumber in the United States, the federal government is doing everything in its power to choke off other sources of the stuff that might fulfill demand and help to bring down costs,\u201d grumbles Reason\u2019s J.D. Tuccille<\/a>. With prices up 300 percent over a year ago thanks to \u201cpublic-health mandates that shuttered or restricted many sawmills,\u201d and not enough labor to run those open at full capacity (\u201cwith expanded unemployment benefits shouldering much of the blame\u201d), the Biden administration still \u201cproposes to hike tariffs once again\u201d on Canadian lumber \u201cto over 18 percent for many firms.\u201d In all, \u201cif you deliberately set out to hurt Americans through this one sector of the economy, you couldn\u2019t be more effective.\u201d<\/p>\n
