For starters, legendary <a href=\"https:\/\/buradabiliyorum.com\/en\/category\/game\/\" data-internallinksmanager029f6b8e52c=\"7\" title=\"Game\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">game<\/a> developer Richard Garfield \u2013 the creator of Magic: The Gathering \u2013 was involved in the creation and development of the game.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>What really caught my eye, however, was the fact that this is one of the few games that\u2019s had its release date moved <\/span><i>up<\/i><span>. It was originally slated for release later this year, but it\u2019ll be available on 17 July.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><iframe loading=\"lazy\" title=\"Roguebook: Gameplay Trailer\" width=\"640\" height=\"360\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/btbCXdb8Xfo?feature=oembed\" frameborder=\"0\" allow=\"accelerometer; autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture; web-share\" referrerpolicy=\"strict-origin-when-cross-origin\" allowfullscreen><\/iframe><\/p>\n<h3><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"Up_front\"><\/span><span>Up front<\/span><span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h3>\n<p><i>Roguebook<\/i><span> takes the roguelike premise (you die a lot and have to start over often, but you gain experience with each playthrough that aids in your overall progress) and combines it with card collecting and turn-based combat. <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>Game play involves traversing an occluded hexagonal map to collect various items and power-ups on your way to confronting a big, bad, boss. Combat is engaged by <a href=\"https:\/\/buradabiliyorum.com\/en\/category\/download-scripts-themes-apps\/\" data-internallinksmanager029f6b8e52c=\"9\" title=\"Download Scripts &amp; Themes &amp; Apps\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">app<\/a>roaching an icon where you\u2019ll be transported to a battle screen. <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>You play entirely at your own pace, there\u2019s never a countdown timer or short window of opportunity to react. In that way, it plays a bit more like a card scrapper than your average roguelike, but we\u2019ve seen this formula before in similar independent games. <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>What sets <\/span><i>Roguebook<\/i><span> apart is its polish. This is a game that plays smart and rewards players of all skill levels. There were a few tense moments in the beginning where I wasn\u2019t quite sure what I was supposed to be doing, but the game does a great job of letting you fail your way to understanding. <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>This is an incredibly easy game to play, but with each successive defeat I felt like I\u2019d exponentially increased my strategic knowledge. The basic premise is that you\u2019re stuck in a book and you have to fight your way out. But this particular book is a special one. It exists in the same game universe as <\/span><i>Faeria<\/i><span> so players familiar with the previous title will enjoy the continuation.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>Make no mistake however, you don\u2019t have to play one to enjoy the other. Where <\/span><i>Faeria<\/i><span> was mostly a multiplayer showdown game, <\/span><i>Roguebook <\/i><span>is a single player experience. <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>I was also intrigued by the character mechanics. You choose a team of two heroes from a team of four distinct characters. Each one is very nuanced in both their gameplay and overall lore and attitude. I know it\u2019s a roguelike and beating it over and over is sort of the point, but I dashed through in about an hour and a half on my first play through. And by the time I\u2019d unlocked all the characters, I was already wishing there were more.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>I like almost everything about <\/span><i>Roguebook<\/i><span>, I just wish there were more of it. The levels are a bit sparse and there isn\u2019t much in the way of build up. Most of the mileage you\u2019ll get from this game comes from the joy of becoming powerful in different ways. But there needs to be more levels and bosses to wield that power at, and more allies to dress up with gear and items. <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>I was also unimpressed by the graphics. They\u2019re a bit\u2026 mobile-friendly\u2026 for my taste. I will say they stand out as bright and super easy to read. But without looking at a screenshot right now, I honestly can\u2019t remember exactly what most of the game looks like. If it gets post launch support and additional content it\u2019ll be a must-play. I can\u2019t think of a\u00a0more polished roguelike than this one. The one time my game crashed, I was able to continue where it left off.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>From the moment you click \u201cnew run,\u201d almost nothing gets in the way of you having fun. It plays fast and fun and it had me saying \u201cjust one more run and I\u2019ll write the review\u201d for hours. <\/span><\/p>\n<p><a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/roguebook.net\/\"><i>Roguebook <\/i><\/a><span>launches on Steam and all major consoles on 17 June. <\/span><\/p>\n<\/div>\n<blockquote><p><strong><span style=\"color: #ff6600;\">If you liked the article, do not forget to share it with your friends.
