“#Jon Stewart tells Colbert it’s obvious COVID-19 came from Wuhan lab<\/strong>”<\/p>\n

Jon Stewart is going viral for a hilarious late-night TV rant in which he insisted that it\u2019s patently obvious that COVID-19 leaked from a Chinese lab.<\/p>\n

Stewart began Monday by telling Stephen Colbert<\/a> \u2014 hosting his first \u201cLate Show\u201d back in front of a live audience \u2014 that \u201cwe owe a great debt of gratitude to science<\/a>.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cScience has, in many ways, helped ease the suffering of this pandemic \u2026 which was more than likely caused by science,\u201d he said to nervous laughter and app<\/a>lause.<\/p>\n

Colbert made it clear he does not support the lab-leak theory, asking his guest, \u201cDo you mean perhaps there\u2019s a chance that this was created in a lab? If there\u2019s evidence I\u2019d love to hear it.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cA chance? Oh my god!\u201d Stewart replied with clear incredulity. \u201cThere\u2019s a novel respiratory coronavirus overtaking Wuhan, China, what do we do? Oh, you know who we could ask? The Wuhan novel respiratory coronavirus lab.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe disease is the same name as the lab! That\u2019s just a little too weird, don\u2019t you think?\u201d he said.<\/p>\n

He then pretended to be a Wuhan scientist claiming that the pandemic started when \u201ca pangolin kissed a turtle\u201d or \u201ca bat flew into the cloaca of a turkey, and then it sneezed into my chili and now we all have coronavirus.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cThere\u2019s been an outbreak of chocolatey goodness near Hershey, Pennsylvania \u2014 what do you think happened?\u201d he said of another make-believe scenario.<\/p>\n

\u201cOh, I don\u2019t know, maybe a steam shovel mated with a cocoa bean \u2026 or it\u2019s the f\u2014ing chocolate factory. Maybe that\u2019s it!\u201d he said.<\/p>\n

At one point, Stewart walked straight up to the camera for a soliloquy to make sure his argument was clear.<\/p>\n

\u201c\u2018I have been alone so long, and when I realized that the laboratory was having the same name \u2014 first name\u00a0and\u00a0<\/em>last name \u2014 of the evil that had been plaguing us, I thought to myself, \u2018That\u2019s f\u2013ed up,’\u201d he said.<\/p>\n

Despite conceding that even White House disease expert Dr. Anthony Fauci is open to the lab-leak theory \u2014 one that President Biden has ordered an investigation of \u2014 Colbert continued to push back.<\/p>\n

\u201cIt could be possible that they have the lab \u2026 because in Wuhan there are a lot of coronavirus diseases because of the bat population there,\u201d he suggested.<\/p>\n

\u201cIt\u2019s the only place you can find bats,\u201d Stewart replied sarcastically, pointing out that \u201cAustin, Texas has thousands of them that fly out of a cave every night at dusk\u201d but \u201cthere doesn\u2019t seem to be an Austin coronavirus.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cThe only coronavirus we have is in Wuhan where they have a lab called \u2013 what\u2019s the lab called again, Stephen?\u201d he asked his host.<\/p>\n

After failing to argue against his guest, he instead compared Stewart to a Republican Senator who last week said that \u201cevidence about a potential lab leak theory has been hiding in plain sight<\/a> for months.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cAnd how long have you worked for Sen. Ron Johnson?\u201d Colbert asked Stewart, drawing laughter and later a response from the politician himself<\/a>.<\/p>\n

Stewart\u2019s performance lost him some fans, including Washington Post columnist Paul Waldman<\/a>, who whined that the funnyman was no longer an \u201cimmensely important figure\u201d now he had stopped \u201cskewering Republicans.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cThis theory has become associated with conservatives trying to prove that former President Donald Trump was right about everything,\u201d he said, ignoring Biden\u2019s investigation as well as Fauci\u2019s open-mindedness about the theory.\n <\/p><\/div>\n
