\n Luxury menswear designer Virgil Abloh has responded to the backlash over a seemingly stingy donation to help bail out protesters outraged over George Floyd\u2019s death.<\/p>\n

Abloh, 39, the creative director of Louis Vuitton\u2019s menswear collection, outraged the black community yesterday after posting in a story on his Instagram that he contributed a measly $50 \u201cfor kids in the streets\u201d that needed bail funds during the dayslong upheaval across the country.<\/p>\n

The Off-White creator was memorably dressed down<\/a> on social media<\/a> over what looked like a pitiful contribution to the cause, compared to the pricey garments he sells.<\/p>\n

However, Abloh claimed on Instagram Monday that it was all a misunderstanding, and as a black man whose parents immigrated from Ghana, he\u2019s devoted to the Black Lives Matter movement.<\/p>\n

\u201cI also joined a social media chain of friends who were matching $50 dollar donations,\u201d wrote Abloh, clarifying<\/a> that he\u2019d actually donated $20,500 in total to \u201cbail funds and other causes related to this movement.\u201d However, the pioneering designer claims that he was on the \u201cfence about publicizing total dollar amounts because I didn\u2019t want to look like I\u2019m glorifying only higher amounts.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cI apologize that app<\/a>eared to some as if that was my only contribution to these important causes,\u201d he wrote.<\/p>\n

The trailblazing creative also urged others to follow suit. \u201cI encourage everyone to band together to match funds of their own proportion,\u201d he added. \u201cEvery dollar counts.\u201d<\/p>\n

But that wasn\u2019t all. In the lengthy post, Abloh also apologized over seemingly critical remarks regarding the looting of luxury stores \u2014 including Los Angeles\u2019 RSVP outlet, which sells his brands<\/a>.<\/p>\n

\u201cIf looting eases pain and furthers the overall mission, it is within good standing with me,\u201d said Abloh. \u201cI am fortunate enough to be able to rebuild my stores. And I am seeking out anyone who needs help rebuilding.\u201d<\/p>\n

His apology comes in the wake of Cardi B\u2019s stylist Kollin Carter chastising the fashion community<\/a> for failing to take a stand on the George Floyd case.<\/p>\n

\u201cSome of you fashion houses and CEO\u2019s are absolutely bogus,\u201d Carter fumed in a graphic on Instagram Monday in the wake of the Black Lives Matter protests over the weekend. \u201cYou take from the culture, and us brown Men and Woman for your traffic and profit but have absolutely nothing to say now,\u201d he continued in the caption.\n <\/p><\/div>\n
