After breaking every theatrical record in Japan, and breaking most records for an anime<\/a> film worldwide, Demon Slayer -Kimetsu no Yaiba- The Movie: Mugen Train<\/strong><\/em>\u00a0finally released on home video yesterday in Japan and once again conquers yet another ranking list, two in fact!\u00a0<\/p>\n

\u00a0<\/p>\n

Oricon announced last night that for the first day (which includes pre-orders), the limited edition\u00a0Blu-ray version of the film topped the Blu-ray ranking chart for the day with 268,000 copies sold<\/strong>, most\u00a0likely topping\u00a0the week as well, and even surpassed the first week sales for the previous top spot,\u00a0Snow Man Asia Tour 2D.2D<\/strong><\/em>. The regular edition of the Blu-ray, which is counted separately, was second, though the amount it sold wasn’t announced.<\/p>\n

On the DVD side, Mugen Train<\/strong><\/em> also topped the daily chart with\u00a0218,000 copies sold<\/strong> of the regular edition, once again surpassing\u00a0Snow Man Asia Tour 2D.2D<\/strong><\/em>‘s first week of sales on the format. The limited-edition DVD version of the film came in second, again with no solid number of copies sold.\u00a0<\/p>\n

It’s safe to say that Demon Slayer: Mugen Train<\/strong><\/em> has once again crushed the market. While it’ll be a few days before the full week of sales come out, the physical Mugen Train<\/strong><\/em> releases\u00a0are\u00a0on track to be one of the biggest animated releases since Oricon started tracking. And that’s in 2021, where digital versions and streaming is becoming more and more widespread in Japan.\u00a0<\/p>\n

\u00a0<\/p>\n

Demon Slayer: Mugen Train <\/strong><\/em>is still being shown in some theaters across Japan, though is slowly being phased out as its historic run comes to a close. At the Japanese box office, the film has reached\u00a040.13 billion yen (US$368.78 million)<\/strong>, continuing to widen its lead as the highest-grossing film in Japan of all time.<\/p>\n

Demon Slayer -Kimetsu no Yaiba- The Movie: Mugen Train\u00a0<\/strong><\/em>opened in Japanese cinemas on October 16 and had the\u00a0best opening weekend<\/span><\/a>\u00a0in Japanese cinema history, becoming the\u00a0<\/span>highest-grossing film<\/span><\/a>\u00a0in Japanese theaters ever, the highest-grossing anime and Japanese film worldwide, and\u00a0the\u00a0highest-grossing film of 2020<\/span><\/a>.\u00a0You can\u00a0read our review of the film here<\/span><\/a>. In North America,\u00a0Mugen Train<\/strong><\/em>\u00a0made its stop in theaters on\u00a0April 23 both dubbed and subbed formats, with a digital release of the film on June 22, becoming the\u00a0<\/span>first anime film<\/span><\/a>\u00a0to top the US box office since\u00a0Pok\u00e9mon: The First Movie<\/strong><\/em>\u00a0in 1999.<\/p>\n

The Ufotable-produced anime film\u00a0continues to adapt\u00a0the manga series<\/a> by\u00a0Koyoharu Gotouge<\/strong>, which saw a TV anime series adaptation in 2019.\u00a0The\u00a0Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba<\/span><\/a><\/strong><\/em>\u00a0<\/span>TV anime series streamed on Crunchyroll as it aired. The second season of the TV anime series, subtitled “Entertainment District arc”, will\u00a0<\/span>premiere<\/span><\/a>\u00a0sometime in 2021 on Japanese TV.<\/p>\n
