He cited the longtime Brooklyn pol\u2019s \u201cadvice to bring a firearm to church as a public safety measure.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>In response, Adams took aim at Yang\u2019s universal basic income proposal. \u201cIt went from UBI that Mr. Yang had, then it went to borough bucks, then it went to monopoly money, then it went to hope and prayer,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n<p>Adams also called out lawyer and civil rights activist Maya Wiley for paying to have private security patrol her leafy Brooklyn enclave while pushing to defund the NYPD.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cYou don\u2019t have a problem with safety with the private security you have on your block,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n<p>    <iframe loading=\"lazy\" id=\"wpcom-iframe-fdc1291ae3ba142b87508e7bae59b0d6\" width=\"640\" height=\"360\" src=\"https:\/\/embeds.nypost.com\/protected-iframe\/fdc1291ae3ba142b87508e7bae59b0d6\" scrolling=\"\" frameborder=\"0\" class=\"\"><br \/>\n    <\/iframe><\/p>\n<p>Another testy moment came after Yang touted his idea to get more mentally ill New Yorkers off the streets by adding psychiatric facility beds \u2014 prompting city Comptroller Scott Stringer to wag his finger and tell him, \u201cYou can\u2019t say, \u2018Psych beds for all.\u2019\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cNot one specific idea, not one specific plan,\u201d Stringer said. \u201cHow much is this going to cost?\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The packed stage and petty asides didn\u2019t allow for much new light to be shed on any of the candidates vying to lead the Big Apple. <\/p>\n<p>Finally, in the last few minutes, the contenders were given a chance to showcase their personalities with some lighter questions, including who would perform at their inauguration and what they would ban to make New Yorkers more healthy.<\/p>\n<p>Former city Sanitation commissioner Kathryn Garcia and ex-City Hall adviser Wiley kept to a similar theme, going with corn syrup and sugary foods, respectively.
