Scientists who discovered a new frog species in the misty mountains of Ecuador have named the tiny amphibian after Led Zeppelin, the Guardian reported<\/a>.<\/p>\n

Pristimantis ledzeppelin \u2014 which translates to \u201cLed Zeppelin\u2019s Rain Frog\u201d \u2014 was found in the Andes Mountains last year by scientists David Brito-Zapata and Carolina Reyes-Puig.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe name honors Led Zeppelin and their extraordinary music,\u201d the two researchers said in the Neotropical Biodiversity Journal<\/a>, which first reported their findings. <\/p>\n

\u201cLed Zeppelin was a British rock band formed in London in 1968, and progenitors of both hard rock and heavy metal,\u201d they rambled on.<\/p>\n

The small, coppery-eyed frog is part of the pristimantis genus, which consists of nearly 570 species, many found along the South American mountain range. <\/p>\n

Scientists believe the Zeppelin frog likely exists only in the remote Cordillera del Condor in Ecuador near the Peruvian border. <\/p>\n

They also urged that the new species be protected \u2014 lest they be trampled under foot.<\/p><\/div>\n
