An Ohio police car ran over a man who\u2019d been shot and called 911 for help \u2013 and he died shortly afterward, police and reports said.<\/p>\n

Eric Cole, 42, was hit in Springfield late Sunday and died early the next morning with an autopsy showing blunt-force trauma, fractures and internal bleeding, WHIO TV reported<\/a>.<\/p>\n

There was some confusion about the address of the reported shooting, which may have contributed to the accident, Springfield Police Chief Lee Graf said, according to The Kansas City Star<\/a>.<\/p>\n

\u201cThis was an accident,\u201d the chief said at a news<\/a> conference on Wednesday, the Star said. \u201cDoesn\u2019t mean it\u2019s OK, but it\u2019s an accident.\u201d<\/p>\n

Officer Amanda Rosales, who was driving a police SUV, is now on paid leave while multiple investigations are underway, according to NBC News<\/a>.<\/p>\n

The man was lying in the street after a bullet pierced his left arm and went through \u201cskin and the soft tissue,\u201d WHIO said.<\/p>\n

It\u2019s not clear who shot Cole and no arrests have been made, reports said. A fight may have sparked the shooting, according to reports.<\/p>\n

There were several 911 calls about the shooting after 11 p.m. Sunday, reports said. One of the callers was Cole himself.<\/p>\n

\u201cI\u2019m in the middle of the street,\u201d Cold told a dispatcher, according to WHIO. \u201cI\u2019m about to die.\u201d<\/p>\n

After he was run over, he told the dispatcher, \u201cthey just hit me.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cWho did?\u201d the dispatcher replied, according to WHIO.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe police,\u201d Cole said.<\/p>\n

Cole\u2019s mother and other family members criticized police at the news conference.<\/p>\n

\u201cHe said, \u2018Your son has just been shot,\u2019 never once was I told that an officer ran over my son,\u201d Wilson told WDTN<\/a>.<\/p>\n

\u201cWhy was I not told at the scene that she ran over my son?\u201d<\/p>\n

Cole was a black man and the NAACP\u2019s Springfield branch has said it would support the family, reports said.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe will ask all of the hard questions and I guarantee you there will be complete transparency,\u201d chapter president Denise Williams told WDTN.\n <\/p><\/div>\n
