And when it does it\u2019ll introduce a new villain to the Marvel Cinematic Universe: Taskmaster, a character who\u00a0<em>loves<\/em> to perform menial tasks like running to the grocery store or painting a fence!<\/p>\n<p>Okay, that\u2019s not actually what the character does. But what is the deal with Taskmaster? Who is he? What does he want? And will he perform some tasks for me because I\u2019m so very lazy? His role there was brief, and he made a much bigger appearance in the next issue,\u00a0\u00a0<em>Avengers<\/em> #196, in June 1980. He even appeared on the <a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.marvel.com\/comics\/issue\/7059\/avengers_1963_196\">cover of that issue<\/a>, complete with the caption \u201cIntroducing the treacherous Taskmaster!\u201d The synopsis asks: \u201cHow does Taskmaster fit into the strange events at the Solomon Institute? Will the Avengers be able to save Wasp from twisted experimentation at the hands of Solomon?\u201d Good question! Tony grew up in the Bronx and discovered he had unusual abilities as a child. He was able to perfectly mimic the movements of anyone he watches, a discovery that alarmed his mother enough to call in some psychiatrists (as we all would do if our child was suddenly a master of tasks). The doctors determined Tony had \u201cphotographic reflexes,\u201d which is kind of like photographic memory, but more specific to actions (or\u00a0<em>tasks<\/em> if you will).<\/p>\n<p>In adulthood, Tony joined\u00a0S.H.I.E.L.D. During one of his missions, Tony encountered a dying scientist who gave him a Nazi version of the Super-Soldier Serum that helped create Captain America. After injecting himself, Tony\u2019s abilities were enhanced, but there was a catch. He became so good at remembering the actions of others that he began to lose other memories. This partial amnesia was so strong that Tony forgot he worked for\u00a0\u00a0S.H.I.E.L.D.\u00a0<em>and<\/em> forgot he was married, to another S.H.I.E.L.D. agent,\u00a0Mercedes Masters.<br \/>\n<!-- SlashFilm_300x250_In_Post_2 -->With his\u00a0S.H.I.E.L.D. days over, Tony briefly considered becoming a superhero but opted to become a supervillain instead. Why? Because it\u2019s more lucrative (superheroes don\u2019t get paid). And thus Taskmaster was born. Taskmaster took his supervillain role very seriously, going so far as to establish a center to train other criminals with the goal of becoming \u201ca supplier for criminal organizations around the world.\u201d That\u2019s right \u2013 Taskmaster invented a school for supervillains. Where\u2019s the movie about\u00a0<em>that<\/em>, Marvel?<\/p>\n<p><a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/d13ezvd6yrslxm.cloudfront.net\/wp\/wp-content\/images\/taskmaster-comics.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-medium wp-image-677475\" src=\"https:\/\/d13ezvd6yrslxm.cloudfront.net\/wp\/wp-content\/images\/taskmaster-comics-700x321.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"700\" height=\"321\" srcset=\"https:\/\/d13ezvd6yrslxm.cloudfront.net\/wp\/wp-content\/images\/taskmaster-comics-700x321.jpg 700w, https:\/\/d13ezvd6yrslxm.cloudfront.net\/wp\/wp-content\/images\/taskmaster-comics-360x165.jpg 360w, https:\/\/d13ezvd6yrslxm.cloudfront.net\/wp\/wp-content\/images\/taskmaster-comics-768x352.jpg 768w, https:\/\/d13ezvd6yrslxm.cloudfront.net\/wp\/wp-content\/images\/taskmaster-comics.jpg 948w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 700px) 100vw, 700px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<h2><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"What_Are_Taskmasters_Superpowers\"><\/span>What Are Taskmaster\u2019s Superpowers?<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h2>\n<p>As mentioned above, part of Taskmaster\u2019s power involves his photographic reflexes. As the <a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/marvel.fandom.com\/wiki\/Anthony_Masters_(Earth-616)\">Marvel Wiki<\/a> explains, Taskmaster can \u201cwatch another person\u2019s physical movements and duplicate them without any practice or training, no matter how complex.\u201d He can also \u201ccopy the subtle muscle movements of others so precisely that he can at times do things such as copying another person\u2019s voice so precisely as to fool voice recognition software although he must practice a voice to ensure he has perfected it enough to fool such devices.\u201d In addition to all of that, Taskmaster has limited superhuman speed, superhuman reflexes, and superhuman agility.<\/p>\n<p>It\u2019s worth noting that all of these details come from the comics but they may not be exactly replicated in\u00a0<em>Black Widow<\/em>, since the MCU has been known to take plenty of liberties when it comes to adapting characters to the big screen. That said, it\u2019s been confirmed that the character will maintain his ability to mimic others.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cTaskmaster has studied the Avengers,\u201d\u00a0<em>Black Widow\u00a0<\/em>fight coordinator James Young revealed in an <a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/comicbook.com\/movies\/news\/black-widow-taskmaster-fighting-style-spider-man-winter-soldier\/\">interview<\/a>. \u201cYou see flashes of Captain America, you see flashes of Bucky, you see flashes of Iron Man, and you see Spider-Man in this sequence. How do you fight someone that can embody all the Avengers at once? While Taskmaster is in\u00a0<em>Black Widow<\/em>, and even featured in the trailers, it has yet to be revealed who is playing the character. This possibly implies that a cast member we know about is secretly playing the Taskmaster character. I\u2019ve seen some people suggest that the body language of Taskmaster in the trailers seems feminine.\u00a0I haven\u2019t seen\u00a0<em>Black Widow<\/em> yet so I can neither confirm nor deny if that\u2019s the case, and it might be dead wrong. So much so that I am 100% convinced this is deliberate \u2013 as if the poster artist said, \u201cI have a funny idea,\u201d and came up with this. However, it\u2019s worth remembering that\u00a0<em>Black Widow<\/em> is a prequel movie, and there\u2019s a good chance that Taskmaster doesn\u2019t survive the film. If so, there won\u2019t be a big part for the character to play in the MCU. Then again, never say never.
