Talk about dumping the old ball and chain.\u00a0<\/p>\n

After being handcuffed together for a staggering 123 days \u2014 using the bathroom in front of one another and taking turns showering mere inches apart \u2014 troubled Ukrainian lovers Alexandr Kudlay and Viktoria Pustovitova have taken their shackles off and are moving on from one another.\u00a0<\/p>\n

\u201cHooray,\u201d shouted Pustovitova, 29, in late May as giant bolt cutters sliced through the steel chains that had bound her to Kudlay, 33, for three months, according to the Mirror<\/a>.\u00a0<\/p>\n

\u201cI am finally free,\u201d she added.\u00a0<\/p>\n

Pustovitova, an eyelash technician from the eastern city of Kharkiv, proposed that she and Kudlay, a car salesman, handcuff themselves together on Valentine\u2019s Day as a last-ditch effort to save their rocky romance.\u00a0<\/p>\n

\u201cI decided it will be an interesting experience for me,\u201d Pustovitova told Reuters at the onset of her and Kudlay\u2019s love lockdown in February.\u00a0<\/p>\n

The pair documented their inescapable experiment on Instagram for their more than 7,800 followers.\u00a0<\/p>\n

\u201cIt will bring into my life new bright emotions which I did not experience before,\u201d she said.\u00a0<\/p>\n

But instead of adding a ray of sunshine to their cloudy coupledom, the ill-fated trial rained hellfire on the relationship.\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n

\u201cAs soon as we find one plus in a situation, immedia<\/a>tely there are two minuses,\u201d Kudlay explained to their followers in an Instagram video posted during the experiment.\u00a0<\/p>\n

\u201cVika wants to get back to the rhythm of her earlier life, she misses what she used to love to do,\u201d he added, noting that the difficulties of being linked together had been \u201csnowballing.\u201d\u00a0<\/p>\n

\u201cShe doesn\u2019t respond well to my suggestions to keep doing what she likes to do alongside me.\u201d<\/p>\n

In addition to taking care of their personal hygiene in front of each another, Pustovitova and Kudlay went grocery shopping together, took side-by-side cigarette breaks and even accompanied one another to work.\u00a0<\/p>\n

But Pustovitova ultimately had to quit her job as a beautician because clients weren\u2019t comfortable with Kudlay standing over them as she manicured their eyelashes.\u00a0<\/p>\n

Their constant companionship and lack of personal space sparked four-hour arguments, bitterness and emotional neglect between the two.\u00a0<\/p>\n

\u201cWe stayed together all day, I did not receive any attention from Alexandr because we were constantly together,\u201d Pustovitova told Reuters<\/a> at the conclusion of the experience. \u201cHe did not tell me, \u2018I miss you,\u2019 while I would like to hear that.\u201d<\/p>\n

Kudlay said the experiment revealed to him that he and Pustovitova were not \u201clike-minded people.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cWe are not on the same wavelength,\u201d he insisted. \u201cWe are totally different.\u201d<\/p>\n

The handcuffs \u2014 which left unsightly rub burns and bruises on their wrists \u2014 were finally removed on May 19.\u00a0<\/p>\n

Pustovitova and Kudlay\u2019s endurance broke\u00a0the Ukrainian and world record for the most time a couple has ever spent chained together.\u00a0<\/p>\n

A handcuff cutting ceremony, supervised by Ukrainian records chief Vitaly Zorin, was held in front of the country\u2019s Unity monument in Kyiv, and broadcast on national television.\u00a0<\/p>\n

Zorin, according to the Mirror, plans to introduce himself to the newly single Pustovitova.\u00a0<\/p>\n

But immediately after being freed from the restraints and announcing her breakup with Kudlay on social media, Pustovitova made it clear she\u2019s happ<\/a>y flying solo for a while.\u00a0<\/p>\n

\u201cI want to live my own independent life, and grow as an independent person,\u201d she revealed to the public.\u00a0<\/p>\n

The last photo shared to their Instagram account showed the soured sweethearts standing apart and staring at the ground.<\/p>\n

Pustovitova and Kudlay are now leading\u00a0separate lives in distant regions of Ukraine.\u00a0<\/p>\n

However, they plan to jointly sell the handcuffs in an online auction and donate part of the money to charity, per Reuters.\u00a0<\/p>\n

And as a word of caution, Pustovitova advised paramours around the world against putting their love to the test by fastening themselves together.\u00a0<\/p>\n

\u201cI think it will be a good lesson for us, for other Ukrainian\u00a0couples and\u00a0couples abroad not to repeat what we have done.\u201d\u00a0\n <\/p><\/div>\n
