It will be exclusive to theaters, at least at first.\u00a0<em>The Green Knight<\/em> was originally supposed to premiere at SXSW in 2020, but SXSW ended up being canceled due to the COVID-19 pandemic. At the time, the movie was still locked for a\u00a0May 29, 2020 release. But as the pandemic continued to spread, A24 eventually pulled the movie from its release calendar for 2020. Folks hungry for the flick kept hoping the studio would drop the film onto streaming, but A24 held out and finally decided on a 2021 release date.<\/p>\n<h2><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"What_is_The_Green_Knight\"><\/span><strong>What is The Green Knight?<\/strong><span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h2>\n<p><em>The Green Knight<\/em> is a fantasy epic inspired by the poem\u00a0<em>Sir Gawain and the Green Knight<\/em>. The poem is from the\u00a0late 14th-century, and its author remains a mystery. In fact, it wasn\u2019t even given the title of\u00a0<em>Sir Gawain and the Green Knight<\/em> until much later. The poem is part of the\u00a0Arthurian legend of King Arthur and his Knights of the Round Table, and draws on Welsh, Irish and English stories along with the French <a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Chivalric\">chivalric tradition<\/a>.<\/p>\n<h2><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"The_Green_Knight_Synopsis\"><\/span><strong>The Green Knight Synopsis<\/strong><span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h2>\n<p>Here\u2019s\u00a0the<em> Green Knight<\/em> synopsis:<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>An epic fantasy adventure based on the timeless Arthurian legend,\u00a0<em>The Green Knight<\/em>\u00a0tells the story of Sir Gawain (Dev Patel), King Arthur\u2019s reckless and headstrong nephew, who embarks on a daring quest to confront the eponymous Green Knight, a gigantic emerald-skinned stranger and tester of men. Gawain contends with ghosts, giants, thieves, and schemers in what becomes a deeper journey to define his character and prove his worth in the eyes of his family and kingdom by facing the ultimate challenger.
