\nAs it turns out,\u00a0Chris Harrison<\/strong> isn\u2019t leaving the\u00a0Bachelor Nation<\/em> world quite as rich as we thought \u2014 nor is he walking away on quite as good terms with the show\u2019s crew!<\/p>\n

Variety<\/em> published a damning new report about the Texan host\u2019s ouster from the longtime reality TV series<\/a> on Friday morning, looking back at the timeline of where it all went wrong \u2014 beginning with Chris\u2019 infamous interview with former contestant-turned-Extra TV<\/em> correspondent Rachel Lindsay<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

There are plenty of interesting little tidbits in the Variety\u00a0<\/em>report, and while we\u2019ve long since reported on quite a few of them, there\u2019s plenty of new information, too. For one, the outlet claims the interview which ended Harrison\u2019s career literally should have NEVER happ<\/a>ened!<\/p>\n

According to insiders, no network or studio publicist ever asked for or requested Harrison\u2019s presence on\u00a0Extra<\/em> with Lindsay \u2014 he simply did so out of a desire to help out a former cast member with some content.<\/p>\n

The industry insider explains (below):<\/p>\n

\u201cMultiple insiders tell Variety<\/em> that Harrison participated in the interview on his own volition, but was never requested by a network or studio publicist to sit down for the press opportunity. When Lindsay asked a par-for-the-course question about Kirkconnell, the Extra<\/em> correspondent did not push Harrison to elaborate and she wasn\u2019t expecting Harrison to dive in. But he did, head first \u2014 and with a crash landing.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n

So literally all he had to do was\u00a0not<\/em> put his foot in his mouth, and he\u2019d still have his job today!<\/p>\n

That\u2019s IT!<\/p>\n

Yikes!!!<\/p>\n

There\u2019s more, too. For one, insiders say the longtime TV host \u201cdeeply cared about\u201d and \u201cloved\u201d his job, so looking in from the outside as he did for a time \u201ctook a toll on him.\u201d Nevertheless, Harrison always<\/em> planned on returning to the show after that initial hiatus \u2014 even after he retained power attorney Bryan Freedman<\/strong> to look after his best interests as the show\u2019s producers made decisions without their longtime emcee\u00a0on set.<\/p>\n

At one point, Harrison and Freedman became \u201coutraged\u201d by the dragging-out process, and the legal eagle worried\u00a0ABC<\/em> and\u00a0Warner Bros<\/strong>. were going to use Chris as a scapegoat for all of the show\u2019s persistent diversity and race problems. Trying to head that off before it became an issue, insiders report Harrison took matters into his own hands after the cast and crew of\u00a0The Bachelorette<\/em> was sent to New Mexico earlier this year to quarantine ahead of filming the currently-airing season starring Katie Thurston<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

The report reveals (emphasis ours):<\/p>\n

\u201cOnce production on Thurston\u2019s season of The Bachelorette<\/em> began, things started to unravel further. While Harrison\u2019s attorney was putting up a tough fight, representing his client against the network and studio, Harrison was still under the impression he could make a comeback for the season. An insider close to production reveals that after cast and crew had already been sent to New Mexico to quarantine for Bachelorette<\/em>, Harrison was essentially knocking on the door, asking to salvage his job by making calls to various people on set, begging them to put in a good word for him<\/strong>.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n

Nothing quite like being an integral part of a hit reality TV show for 20 years, defending racism one day on TV, and then feeling like you have to beg crew members to put in a good word so you can get your job back. Life comes at you fast!!!<\/p>\n

From there, before you could say \u201cthis is the final rose of the night,\u201d Chris was out on the proverbial street, having been kicked to the curb by producers. And with that, here comes the other most inneresting aspect of Harrison\u2019s hasty retreat: he didn\u2019t come away with anywhere near the amount of payout cash that was initially reported!<\/p>\n

We heard multiple reports claiming Chris caught a \u201cmid-range eight-figure payoff\u201d for his trouble, which means his payday would\u2019ve approached somewhere in the realm of $50 million \u2014 a nice golden parachute if true. But he didn\u2019t get that at all! He got less than a FIFTH of that!<\/p>\n

Here\u2019s what\u00a0Variety<\/em> claims after checking in on things in Friday\u2019s report:<\/p>\n

\u201cDespite previous reports, Harrison did not walk away with a substantial eight-figure payout. Two individuals familiar with the negotiations say that the host got $9 million, plus remaining contractual fees, which brought his total exit package to roughly $10 million \u2014 about the same paycheck he would have made from two years of work, as his contract was said to be around $5 million per year.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n

Womp, womp\u2026<\/p>\n

OK, to be totally fair, we\u2019d ABSOLUTELY take $10 million if any of you have it lying around. LOLz!<\/p>\n

But still, just saying, that\u2019s far from \u201cmid-range eight-figures\u201d and definitely a huge step down in leverage, proving Bachelor<\/em> producers were more than happy to get rid of Chris quickly and completely.<\/p>\n
