“#NASA’s Mission Equity ripped as ‘critical space theory’<\/strong>”<\/p>\n

NASA this week launched a new \u201cequity\u201d mission to recruit people from more diverse backgrounds \u2014 but it was quickly derided online as an unnecessary woke step toward \u201ccritical space theory.\u201d<\/p>\n

The space agency launched its \u201cAdvancing Racial Equity and Support for Underserved Communities in NASA Programs, Contracts and Grants\u201d program on Tuesday, sharing a video<\/a> of staffers of varying racial backgrounds delivering the new inclusive message.<\/p>\n

\u201cAt NASA, we\u2019re on a mission of equity, launching opportunity \u2026 to reach those we\u2019ve never reached before \u2026 To shatter boundaries and break down barriers across America,\u201d the staffers say.<\/p>\n

The agency said it wants to reach those who are \u201cBlack, Latino, and Indigenous and Native American persons, Asian Americans and Pacific Islanders and other persons of color\u201d as well as \u201clesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, and queer (LGBTQ+) persons.\u201d<\/p>\n

It is also seeking \u201cmembers of religious minorities,\u201d people with disabilities and \u201cpersons otherwise adversely affected by persistent poverty or inequality.\u201c<\/strong><\/p>\n

\u201cNASA is a 21st-century agency with 22nd-century goals. To be successful, it\u2019s critical that NASA takes a comprehensive app<\/a>roach to address the challenges to equity we see today,\u201d NASA Administrator Bill Nelson said in a statement.<\/p>\n
