Greenwich Village remains a left-liberal stronghold, but residents are furious at what\u2019s become of Washington Square Park. Hundreds packed the basement of Our Lady of Pompeii Church this week to complain of the utter lawlessness.<\/p>\n

The NYPD\u2019s 6th Precinct called the emergency meeting after mounting local complaints that the partying, loud music, drugs, sexual exploits and violence were out of control.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe park has become a drug den, it\u2019s not about the music,\u201d one woman fumed. \u201cThe criminality has extended to our quaint street. From lewd acts to nudity to drugs, crack being smoked on our street, our children have witnessed people shooting up.\u201d<\/p>\n

The rage is justified, especially on the heels of a weekend that saw anti-cop graffiti scrawled on the park\u2019s iconic arch, one man beaten and robbed of his cellphone, two others knifed in a brawl and an elderly cook thrown into a window at a neighborhood diner.<\/p>\n

No wonder Village residents don\u2019t buy Mayor Bill de Blasio\u2019s claims that this madness will somehow end \u201cnaturally.\u201d <\/p>\n

Don\u2019t forget to vote, people: New York needs a mayor who\u2019s serious about putting the lid back on crime.\n <\/p><\/div>\n
