Scientists have created a cure for hiccups that doesn\u2019t involve people ridiculously screaming \u201cboo!\u201d or holding your nose while chugging water. <\/p>\n

The \u201cHiccAway\u201d a \u201cforced inspiratory suction and swallow tool\u201d, is an L-shaped straw with an adjustable pressure valve on one end, according to the Guardian<\/a>. Sipping water out of this rigid straw will immedia<\/a>tely cure the hiccups for most people. It costs $14.<\/p>\n

According to a study co-authored by Dr Ali Seifi, associate professor at the University of Texas Health Science<\/a> Center at San Antonio, and published in the Jama Network<\/a>, \u201cthe results reveal that the device stopped hiccups in almost 92 percent of cases. Just over 90 percent of participants said they found it more convenient than other home remedies, while 183 of 203 participants said it gave better results.<\/p>\n

\u201cIt works instantly and the effect stays for several hours,\u201d Seifi told the Guardian.<\/p>\n

Dr. Rhys Thomas, a consultant neurologist and epilepsy neuroscientist at Newcastle University, who was not involved in the study, told the Guardian that while the device was \u201clikely to work and was Covid-safe as it did not require input from others,\u201d he added:\u00a0\u201cI think this is a solution to a problem that nobody has been asking for.\n <\/p><\/div>\n
