“#’They’re trying to silence me’<\/strong>”<\/p>\n

Michael Wasserman wants to let his freedom fly \u2014 but his town of Long Beach, LI, isn\u2019t having it.<\/p>\n

\u201cI believe the city is trying to silence me because I\u2019m pro-Trump,\u201d he told The Post.<\/p>\n

The 62-year-old entrepreneur has become known in the area for plastering his home \u2014 along with his Porsche and Jeep \u2014 with a rotating variety of political flags and stickers.
Now he has filed a $25 million federal suit \u2014 against the City of Long Beach, the chief of police, the city manager and specific police officers \u2014 after officials forced him to remove the flags on his cars.<\/p>\n

The town claims they are a violation of an ordinance stating that \u201c[No] sign shall be erected, affixed or maintained within the perimeter of any \u2026 public street or public property.\u201d Wasserman parks his car on a public street outside his home.<\/p>\n

\u201cThey\u2019re bending and massaging the ordinance to fit the crime,\u201d Wasserman told The Post. \u201cThis is a blatant attempt to silence me.\u201d<\/p>\n

The town\u2019s lawyer, Howard M. Miller, told The Post: \u201cIt\u2019s not a political case. It\u2019s not the contents of the message. it\u2019s where he had it \u2014 it\u2019s a public street.\u201d<\/p>\n

Wasserman \u2014 who said police have visited his home multiple times since March, giving reasons from neighbor complaints to violation of ordinances \u2014 believes he is targeted for being a conservative.<\/p>\n

\u201c[People] spit at me, drive by cursing me out,\u201d he said of local residents. His Porsche, which is decorated with \u00a0stickers \u2014 including one depicting Trump urinating on a CNN logo \u2014 is marred with scratches from people keying it.<\/p>\n

But, he said, all the hate only strengthens his resolve.<\/p>\n

\u201cIf they didn\u2019t try to cancel me, I probably wouldn\u2019t be so prolific,\u201d Wasserman told The Post, wearing a legally permitted gun, a $400 Kevlar bulletproof vest and a body camera because of \u201cdeath notes on my car.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cThere\u2019s so much vitriol, hate and anger from [from liberals],\u201d he added. \u201cAren\u2019t they supposed to be inclusive of everyone? They\u2019re not.\u201d<\/p>\n

Lawyer Victor Feraru, a self-described \u201cliberal Democrat\u201d who said he has taken heat for representing Wasserman, told The Post that they are suing on the grounds of selective enforcement and discrimination.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe wouldn\u2019t be here if he were flying a Biden flag,\u201d Feraru said. \u201cThis is \u2026 selective targeting for his political ideology.\u201d<\/p>\n

A pre-motion hearing is pending, and Wasserman\u2019s team expects defendants to file a motion to dismiss.<\/p>\n

A longtime Democrat, Wasserman switched parties in 2004 to vote for George W. Bush. He said he\u2019s been flying flags for over a decade, including Tea Party flags, Marine flags, pro-cop flags and the Gadsden (\u201dDon\u2019t Tread on Me\u201d) flag, which started as an anti-British sentiment during the Revolutionary War but has become controversial in recent years.<\/p>\n

When The Post visited Thursday, he was flying \u201cF\u2013k Biden\u201d banners, the profanity of which has caused neighbors to complain to police. The town admitted<\/a> in a March 21 statement that the \u201cprofane language .. is considered \u00a0constitutionally protected.\u201d<\/p>\n

But Wasserman won\u2019t be stopped.<\/p>\n

\u201cI\u2019m standing up for my constitutional liberties,\u201d said Wasserman. \u201cAll they try to do is cancel you.\u201d<\/p><\/div>\n
