{"id":279575,"date":"2021-06-21T06:23:04","date_gmt":"2021-06-21T03:23:04","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/en.buradabiliyorum.com\/misery-has-become-a-thing-for-rory-mcilroy-louis-oosthuizen\/"},"modified":"2021-06-21T06:23:04","modified_gmt":"2021-06-21T03:23:04","slug":"misery-has-become-a-thing-for-rory-mcilroy-louis-oosthuizen","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/buradabiliyorum.com\/en\/misery-has-become-a-thing-for-rory-mcilroy-louis-oosthuizen\/","title":{"rendered":"#Misery has become a thing for Rory McIlroy, Louis Oosthuizen"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>&#8220;<strong>#Misery has become a thing for Rory McIlroy, Louis Oosthuizen<\/strong>&#8221;<\/p>\n<div>\n<p>SAN DIEGO \u2014 Dissecting the losers (non-winners?) of major championships and the respective ramifications for each of them is sometimes as compelling as analyzing what the victory did for the winner.<\/p>\n<p>In the case of Sunday\u2019s final round of the 121st U.S. Open at Torrey Pines, this question must be asked when it relates to two of the players who came tantalizingly close to winning but ultimately fell short of winner Jon Rahm: When does a thing become a <em>thing<\/em>?<\/p>\n<p>For two of the players who had one hand on the U.S. Open trophy as they played the back nine, that time is NOW.<\/p>\n<p>Of all the players who entered the final round in contention, Rory McIlroy needed to win this U.S. Open more than anyone else. You can make the argument that, based on his talent and where he stood on the leaderboard to begin the day, McIlroy should have won.<\/p>\n<p>You can also make that argument for Louis Oosthuizen, who <a href=\"https:\/\/buradabiliyorum.com\/en\/category\/download-scripts-themes-apps\/\" data-internallinksmanager029f6b8e52c=\"9\" title=\"Download Scripts &amp; Themes &amp; Apps\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">app<\/a>eared to be cruising to victory on the back nine with the lead.<\/p>\n<p>It\u2019s been seven years since McIlroy won his last major championship and the sound of that clock ticking is growing louder and it cannot help but be maddening to him.<\/p>\n<p>McIlroy\u2019s best is better than anyone else\u2019s best in the <a href=\"https:\/\/buradabiliyorum.com\/en\/category\/game\/\" data-internallinksmanager029f6b8e52c=\"7\" title=\"Game\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">game<\/a>. Even through 10 holes, I was right in the thick of things. It was really two holes that basically stopped the sort of run at the title.\u2019\u2019<\/p>\n<p>McIlroy was 4-under par and right on Oosthuizen\u2019s tail and he bogeyed No. 11 and doubled 12. End of championship hopes.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cOnce I made those little mistakes on 11 and 12, I felt like I was just chasing a little bit, and then ultimately couldn\u2019t really get anything done from there,\u2019\u2019 he said. \u201cBut overall, it\u2019s been a good week. I put up a good fight. Take those two holes out, the rest of the week was really good.\u2019\u2019<\/p>\n<p>Can\u2019t take those two holes out, though. He was in perfect position to come from behind and strike. But, in the end, he couldn\u2019t muster his best golf when it counted.<\/p>\n<p>Oosthuizen, like McIlroy one of the most affable players in the game, also attempted to put a positive spin on the week, though it\u2019s clear he\u2019s sick of finishing second.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI didn\u2019t win it,\u2019\u2019 Oosthuizen said. \u201cI\u2019m second again. Look, it\u2019s frustrating. It\u2019s disappointing. I played good today, but I didn\u2019t play good enough. I played good; just fell a little short again.\u2019\u2019<\/p>\n<p>Oosthuizen doomed his chances when, after Rahm had finished 6-under and one shot ahead of him, he pulled a tee shot into the hazard on the left side of the 17th fairway and took bogey to fall two shots back.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt was Jon who played a great round of golf \u2014 4-under today on that golf course is a really good score,\u201d Oosthuizen said. \u201cI feel like I had my shots, I went for it and that\u2019s what you have to do to win majors.
