The so-called PRO Act \u201cis a grab bag of Big-Labor agenda items that would extend some of California\u2019s awful independent contractor regulations nationwide\u201d and \u201cabolish so-called right-to-work laws in the 27 states that have passed them.\u201d Biden and the unions insist this is about empowering workers, \u201cbut if workers were as eager to join unions as [they] seem to think, they wouldn\u2019t need a powerful federal bureaucracy to encourage that outcome.\u201d<\/p>\n<h2><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"Centrist_United_Supremes\"><\/span>Centrist: United Supremes<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h2>\n<p>The most striking aspect of the Supreme Court\u2019s recent rulings on\u00a0ObamaCare and religious liberty was the \u201cabsence of ideological divisions\u201d from a high court that \u201cDemocratic leaders have declared hopelessly divided along ideological lines,\u201d <a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.usatoday.com\/story\/opinion\/2021\/06\/17\/partisan-narrative-persists-threatens-future-supreme-court\/7731207002\/\">observes Jonathan Turley at USA Today<\/a>. The largely united decisions mark \u201cthe final collapse of the false narrative that has been endlessly repeated like a mantra in Congress and the <a href=\"https:\/\/buradabiliyorum.com\/en\/category\/social-mediaa\/\" data-internallinksmanager029f6b8e52c=\"1\" title=\"Social Media\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">media<\/a>.\u201d Critics may continue to insist that the court is \u201cdysfunctional, divided and needs to be radically changed,\u201d but the justices aren\u2019t \u201ccooperating,\u201d issuing instead an \u201cinconvenient line of unanimous decisions.\u201d Yet even as the court \u201cseems to be saying a lot in one voice not just about the law, but about its own institution,\u201d the media will undoubtedly continue to denounce it, \u201cbecause politics demands it.\u201d<\/p>\n<h2><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"Crime_beat_A_Wake-Up_Call_in_Atlanta\"><\/span>Crime beat: A Wake-Up Call in Atlanta<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h2>\n<p>The \u201cmind-numbing randomness, brazenness and, even worse, casualness of violence afflicting Atlanta\u201d has the upscale Buckhead neighborhood \u201cwanting to break away from Atlanta to form its own city\u201d with \u201cits own police force,\u201d <a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.ajc.com\/opinion\/columnists\/opinion-threat-of-buckhead-city-vs-truth-of-no-other-option-atlanta\/XJSUS7PJZVD75GM555L6ZYKSCA\/\">writes The Atlanta Journal-Constitution\u2019s Bill Torpy<\/a>. Atlanta shootings are up 40 percent this year, but police often see \u201cthe same ne\u2019er-do-wells walking the streets the next day,\u201d thanks to a \u201cbroken\u201d criminal-justice system. \u201cBuckhead is almost three-quarters white,\u201d yet \u201cin black neighborhoods across the city, victims are widespread, and residents there want police to protect them, too.\u201d But Buckhead can get attention, because its departure would \u201ctake away 40 percent of the city\u2019s income.\u201d It should be \u201cone loud wake-up call.\u201d<\/p>\n<h2><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"Culture_critic_RIP_Janet_Malcolm\"><\/span>Culture critic: RIP, Janet Malcolm<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h2>\n<p><a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.firstthings.com\/web-exclusives\/2021\/06\/the-critical-eye-of-janet-malcolm\">At First Things, Helen Andrews<\/a> assesses the complex legacy of veteran New Yorker magazine scribe Janet Malcolm, who died last week \u2014 and whose \u201ccold, precise, unsparing\u201d journalistic style recalled that of the great Russian writer\u00a0Anton Chekhov. She was born to a psychiatrist father, and\u00a0\u201cpsychoanalysis was a constant presence in Malcolm\u2019s journalism.\u201d The shrink\u2019s couch formed her \u201ceye for the telling detail\u201d and \u201ctaught Malcolm a certain bleakness\u201d about the world \u2014 and her own profession. Yet her \u201cmost famous line\u201d \u2014 that \u201cevery journalist who is not too stupid or full of himself to notice what is going on knows that what he does is morally indefensible\u201d \u2014 helped spread cynicism about reporters. The result, Andrews laments, is that now \u201cevery trace of authenticity has been scrubbed from press interviews.\u201d\u00a0<\/p>\n<h2><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"Media_watch_Suppressing_the_Truth\"><\/span>Media watch: Suppressing the Truth<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h2>\n<p>\u201cFrom the lab-leak theory to the Lafayette Square tear-gassing, anti-Trump bias blinded our <a href=\"https:\/\/buradabiliyorum.com\/en\/category\/news\/\" data-internallinksmanager029f6b8e52c=\"2\" title=\"News\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">news<\/a> media,\u201d <a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.spiked-online.com\/2021\/06\/16\/the-american-media-care-more-about-the-narrative-than-the-facts\/\">declares Wilfred Reilly at Spiked Online<\/a>. \u201cExcept perhaps for the Hunter Biden story,\u201d there was no \u201cpotentially major and obviously newsworthy story more intensely suppressed than the lab-leak explanation for COVID\u2019s origins,\u201d but it was just \u201crevealed quite possibly to be correct.\u201d Pols and press called then-President Donald Trump \u201creckless\u201d for touting hydroxychloroquine, yet \u201ca major study\u201d has found \u201cit increases survival rates for COVID patients by almost 200 percent.\u201d And the claim \u201cTrump had \u2018tear-gassed peaceful protesters\u2019\u200a\u201d to stage a photo-op turned out to be \u201ccomplete nonsense.\u201d Tellingly, all these facts only came out when Joe Biden became president.
