{"id":280012,"date":"2021-06-21T00:59:33","date_gmt":"2021-06-20T21:59:33","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/en.buradabiliyorum.com\/letters-to-the-editor-june-21-2021\/"},"modified":"2021-06-21T00:59:33","modified_gmt":"2021-06-20T21:59:33","slug":"letters-to-the-editor-june-21-2021","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/buradabiliyorum.com\/en\/letters-to-the-editor-june-21-2021\/","title":{"rendered":"#Letters to the Editor \u2014 June 21, 2021"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>&#8220;<strong>#Letters to the Editor \u2014 June 21, 2021<\/strong>&#8221;<br \/>\n<img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/nypost.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2021\/06\/051821ericadams18MATT.jpg?quality=90&amp;strip=all\" \/><\/p>\n<div>\n<p><strong>The Issue: Mayor de Blasio\u2019s lack of response to rising crime and disorder in Washington Square Park.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Mayor de Blasio abandoned the city during his failed run for president, making him \u201cthe national idiot\u201d (\u201cDeB \u2018didn\u2019t see a problem\u2019!?!\u201d June 18).<\/p>\n<p>The clueless progressive has abandoned the city again by failing to acknowledge the worst crime crisis since the 1970s or to do anything to protect the people who pay his and his wife\u2019s hefty salaries.<\/p>\n<p><em>Kathryn Donnelly<\/em><\/p>\n<p><em>Queens<\/em><\/p>\n<p>As a native New Yorker who did not flee the crime waves and lower quality of life during the 1970s-1990s, I\u2019m am reconsidering (\u201cBloodshed, Bedlam &amp; Clueless Blas,\u201d Editorial, June 15).<\/p>\n<p>Another criminal rampage beset Washington Square Park recently, ending in 14 shootings, two knifings, vicious assaults, attacks on businesses and more, as the NYPD was held at bay.<\/p>\n<p>Mayor de Blasio\u2019s answer to the depravity that went on in the park? A \u201cnatural\u201d resolution will work things out, whatever that may mean.<\/p>\n<p>If we had a choice between a natural resolution against the high crime rate or allowing the NYPD to do their job, I\u2019ll choose the NYPD.<\/p>\n<p><em>J. Marie Norris<\/em><\/p>\n<p><em>Brooklyn<\/em><\/p>\n<p>Our mayor has decided to turn a blind eye to the problem.<\/p>\n<p>A curfew was suppose to be in place a week or two ago, but our mayor is holding the NYPD from performing its duties.<\/p>\n<p>It is no longer safe to walk through the park or even around it after the sun is down. Assaults, drug use and loud music make it total mayhem there \u2014 a Sodom and Gomorrah at night, all because the mayor refuses to acknowledge the out-of-control situation.<\/p>\n<p>What\u2019s it going to take before he wakes up?<\/p>\n<p><em>Joseph Comperchio<\/em><\/p>\n<p><em>Brooklyn<\/em><\/p>\n<p>So the residents around Washington Square Park are upset by the disorder? What did they expect?<\/p>\n<p>They helped elect government officials who enacted no-bail reform, emptied half of Rikers Island, disbanded the anti-crime units and removed limited liability for the police.<\/p>\n<p>Then there are prosecutors who will not prosecute and judges who are soft on criminals.<\/p>\n<p>On top of that, the residents helped elect a doofus mayor \u2014 not once but twice. <\/p>\n<p><em>Gary Layton<\/em><\/p>\n<p><em>Interlaken, NJ<\/em><\/p>\n<p><strong>The Issue: A city-backed program that will give $1,250 per month to young homeless people.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>A program backed by the city plans to give $1,250 a month to the homeless (\u201cYoung NYC homeless people to get $1,250 each month in city-backed study,\u201d June 18).<\/p>\n<p>The intentions are certainly noble, but here\u2019s the problem: The homeless population in New York City has a very high percentage of drug addicts.<\/p>\n<p>Where exactly do these fools think this money will be spent \u2014 on school supplies? Are you kidding me? Which genius came up with this idea?<\/p>\n<p>Drug addicts will always spend any and all available cash on drugs. Period. That\u2019s the nature of the desperation that addiction brings with it.<\/p>\n<p>The recipients will not be held accountable for where the money is spent.
