\n The MTA\u2019s new contactless fare system is live at every subway station in the Bronx, transit officials announced Wednesday.<\/p>\n

The system, known as OMNY, lets straphangers pay for single-ride fares using mobile wallets and contactless credit cards. Time-based OMNY cards will be available in the first quarter of 2021.<\/p>\n

\u201cEvery single farebox and every single turnstile will have an OMNY card reader installed by the end of this year,\u201d MTA Chief Revenue Officer Al Putre said Wednesday during a press event at 167th Street station on the Grand Concourse.<\/p>\n

The MTA\u2019s entire 5,800-vehicle bus fleet will also be OMNY-fied by the end of the year.<\/p>\n

\u201cAs soon as the system is complete, by the end of the year, we will then introduce time-based products,\u201d Putre said.<\/p>\n

\u201cCustomers will have the ability to end-to-end journey with those time-based cards, so by the end of the year, I would suggest switching to OMNY. It\u2019s just more convenient.\u201d<\/p>\n

Sixty percent of subways stations are currently OMNY-enabled, according to the MTA.<\/p>\n

Putre said Brooklyn stations on the 2, 3 and 5 lines are next up for upgrades, followed by stops along the Queens Boulevard line.\n <\/p><\/div>\n<\/p><\/div>\n<\/p><\/div>\n<\/div>\n
