Sooner or later \u2013 probably after Spielberg has sadly shuffled off this mortal coil \u2013 Hollywood will get around to making a\u00a0<em>Jaws<\/em> reboot. But as long as Spielberg is still with us, it seems\u00a0<em>Jaws<\/em> is safe. In fact, there are many remakes that end up being pretty damn great. And Steven Spielberg isn\u2019t against remakes, either. His next movie is a remake of\u00a0<em>West Side Story<\/em>, and his 1989 movie\u00a0<em>Always<\/em> is a remake of<em>\u00a0A Guy Named Joe.<\/em>\u00a0But when it comes to remaking his own films, Spielberg seems less than enthusiastic, and I can\u2019t say I disagree with him there. So far there has yet to be an official remake of a Spielberg movie, and it doesn\u2019t seem like that will change anytime soon.<\/p>\n<p>In a story\u00a0we ran yesterday revealing that Spielberg\u2019s Amblin had signed a deal with Netflix, Deadline casually dropped this info: \u201cOne area the director will not revisit is <em>Jaws<\/em>. Deadline heard recently that Universal broached the subject to reboot Spielberg\u2019s breakout classic, with Spielberg producing, and the answer was a firm no.\u201d They also added: \u201cSome at Universal and Amblin said this was already known and not a recent conversation.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>I honestly cannot imagine a\u00a0<em>Jaws<\/em> reboot being successful. Can you make a successful new killer shark movie? Of course! But the idea of remaking\u00a0<em>Jaws<\/em> feels kind of icky to me. Let\u2019s not mess with perfection, shall we?<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-medium wp-image-363341 aligncenter\" src=\"https:\/\/d13ezvd6yrslxm.cloudfront.net\/wp\/wp-content\/images\/steven-spielberg-ranked-jaws-700x302.jpg\" alt=\"movies coming to netflix\" width=\"700\" height=\"302\" srcset=\"https:\/\/d13ezvd6yrslxm.cloudfront.net\/wp\/wp-content\/images\/steven-spielberg-ranked-jaws.jpg 700w, https:\/\/d13ezvd6yrslxm.cloudfront.net\/wp\/wp-content\/images\/steven-spielberg-ranked-jaws-360x155.jpg 360w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 700px) 100vw, 700px\" \/><\/p>\n<h2><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"The_Sanctity_of_Jaws\"><\/span><strong>The Sanctity of Jaws<\/strong><span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h2>\n<p>While\u00a0<em>Jaws<\/em> has yet to be rebooted, it did spawn several sequels \u2013 none of which even come close to the original. Spielberg didn\u2019t direct any of the sequels, but he\u2019s revealed in the past that the studio was hoping he would. They <a href=\"https:\/\/buradabiliyorum.com\/en\/category\/download-scripts-themes-apps\/\" data-internallinksmanager029f6b8e52c=\"9\" title=\"Download Scripts &amp; Themes &amp; Apps\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">app<\/a>roached him to direct\u00a0<em>Jaws 2\u00a0<\/em>and he turned it down \u2013 only to then consider stepping in when director\u00a0John D. Hancock was fired from the project. However, Spielberg was too busy with\u00a0<em>Close Encounters of the Third Kind<\/em> at the time, so\u00a0Jeannot Szwarc ended up helming\u00a0<em>Jaws 2<\/em>.<br \/>\n<!-- SlashFilm_300x250_In_Post_2 -->According to Spielberg, his potential sequel involvement didn\u2019t stop there. The studio next turned to him to helm\u00a0<em>Jaws 3<\/em>. But he turned that down as well. \u201cI was done, I was done with the ocean,\u201d he said in an <a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"http:\/\/legacy.aintitcool.com\/node\/49921\">interview<\/a>:<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>\u201cI would have done the sequel if I hadn\u2019t had such a horrible time at sea on the first film. I would have absolutely jumped at the chance to own the sequel because I knew that when I was walking away from the sequel I was walking away from a huge piece of my life that I had helped to create, but it wasn\u2019t a hard decision to walk way from it. I just could not imagine going back out to the ocean and sitting in a boat for 9 months. I just couldn\u2019t imagine it. So, I was happy and relieved not to have made the movie, but also I wasn\u2019t happy with the sequel and I realized I had let a franchise go that I could have made a good contribution to.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>In a separate interview, Spielberg <a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/bloody-disgusting.com\/movie\/3373531\/steven-spielberg-on-remaking-jaws\/\">said<\/a>: \u201cI would never remake one of my own movies \u2014 starting with\u00a0<i>Jaws<\/i>\u00a0\u2014 but there are Amblin titles in the library that could inspire new stories that were made popular by the films,\u201d he said. \u201cThere isn\u2019t a single title that I\u2019ve earmarked, but yes, I would like to.
