According to <a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.tmz.com\/2021\/06\/22\/damon-dash-cant-sell-reasonable-doubt-nft-jay-z-roc-a-fella-wins\/\"><em>TMZ,<\/em> <\/a>a judge ruled Roc-A-Fella co-founder Damon Dash is prohibited from selling Hov\u2019s 1996 debut\u00a0<em>Reasonable Doubt<\/em> as a non-fungible token (NFT) \u2014 at least for now.<\/p>\n<p>The ruling is only temporary, but sources close to the case said the federal judge determined JAY-Z and Roc-A-Fella\u2019s arguments were \u201ccredible and correct.\u201d However, more filings from Damon Dash\u2019s side are likely to follow.<\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\" data-width=\"500\" data-dnt=\"true\">\n<p lang=\"en\" dir=\"ltr\">21 years ago today, JAY-Z released his debut album <a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/hashtag\/ReasonableDoubt?src=hash&amp;ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">#ReasonableDoubt<\/a> \ud83d\ude33 <a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/t.co\/FMAxZcdLLx\">pic.twitter.com\/FMAxZcdLLx<\/a><\/p>\n<p>\u2014 Hip Hops Revival (@hiphopsrevival) <a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/hiphopsrevival\/status\/878968651646480384?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">June 25, 2017<\/a><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p><script async src=\"https:\/\/platform.twitter.com\/widgets.js\" charset=\"utf-8\"><\/script><\/p>\n<p>Roc-A-Fella and high profile attorney Alex Spiro filed the lawsuit on Friday (June 18), claiming Damon Dash has no rights to auction off\u00a0<em>Reasonable Doubt<\/em> as an NFT.<\/p>\n<p>Although the auction never took place, Dash was still accused of \u201cfrantically scouting for another venue to make the sale\u201d in an attempt to collect what he believes he\u2019s owed. But Dash begs to differ and says the lawsuit is \u201cfull of inaccuracies,\u201d pointing out it\u2019s not just\u00a0<em>Reasonable Doubt<\/em>\u00a0he\u2019s trying to sell. Rather, it\u2019s his entire stake in Roc-A-Fella Records.<\/p>\n<p>He claims JAY-Z attempted to buy his one-third share of Roc-A-Fella in March at a\u00a0price he \u201cdeemed unacceptable,\u201d so he\u2019s simply looking for another buyer. When and if he finds the buyer, Dash says, \u201cUnder the terms of the deal with a potential buyer, the buyer would buy my share of Roc a Fella Records and JAY-Z will have exclusive administration rights.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Dash believes the lawsuit is\u00a0\u201ca scare tactic to prevent him from selling something he believes he has the legal right to sell.\u201d After all, Damon Dash is listed as an executive producer on <em>Reasonable Doubt<\/em>, has dialogue on the album and is photographed for the CD booklet.<\/p>\n<p>But for now, he won\u2019t be collecting any NFT profits from the classic album.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<p><\/p>\n<div class=\"author\" itemprop=\"author\" itemscope itemtype=\"http:\/\/schema.org\/Person\">\n<meta itemprop=\"name\" content=\"Kyle Eustice\"><br \/>\nby Kyle Eustice\n<\/div>\n<blockquote><p><strong><span style=\"color: #ff6600;\">If you liked the article, do not forget to share it with your friends.
