data-save-publication=\"false\">\n        <\/div>\n<\/p><\/div>\n<\/p><\/div>\n<p>       San Francisco Federal Reserve President Mary Daly said climate change is affecting both employment and prices, which lands the critical topic under the Fed\u2019s policy purview.<\/p>\n<p> Daly, in a speech Tuesday to the Peterson Institute for International Economics and in follow-up questions with members of the <a href=\"https:\/\/buradabiliyorum.com\/en\/category\/social-mediaa\/\" data-internallinksmanager029f6b8e52c=\"1\" title=\"Social Media\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">media<\/a>, stressed that costly extreme weather, rising insurance premiums, bank-priced vulnerable assets, and energy-sector job displacement have already reshaped the U.S. economy.<\/p>\n<div class=\"paywall\">\n       \u201cOur future is uncertain: no one really knows the severity and scale of<br \/>climate change, where and who will be most affected, or the nature, extent<br \/>and duration of our response to the risks,\u201d she said. \u201cBut one thing is certain\u2014the<br \/>economic ground is shifting. And we have a window of opportunity to prepare; to choose the degree of hardship we will endure.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Some, mostly Republican, lawmakers have criticized the Fed\u2019s recent push into exploring climate-change policy. They argue that the topic remains too nuanced for near-term decisions and is beyond the scope of the dual Fed mandates for steering the economy toward full employment and controlling inflation. <\/p>\n<p>These lawmakers have also queried early efforts by the Fed to push banks on \u201cstress testing\u201d climate issues, pointing to longer-term measurement uncertainty and a poor fit for differently sized banks. That in turn could crimp the Fed\u2019s ability to fight future economic downturns with conventional monetary policy. <\/p>\n<p>\u201cOf course, there could also be offsetting pressure on r-star [neutral rate of interest] from increased investments to move to a more sustainable economy. In other words, there\u2019s a lot of uncertainty,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n<p>Climate-related risks are not playing a major role in the setting of Fed interest-rate policy at the moment, Chairman Jerome Powell\u00a0said earlier this month.<\/p>\n<p>Daly said she doesn\u2019t consider the Fed\u2019s stepped-up rhetoric and its creation of a new Supervision Climate Committee as the \u201cactivism\u201d that is irksome to some lawmakers. \u201cWe are not advocating for particular policy\u2026 we are listening, learning and studying our goals as Congress gave them to us,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n<div id=\"cx-membership-tile\"><\/div>\n<p>Daly was pushed in Q&amp;A on whether financial-sector intervention to lever \u201cconstructive things\u201d toward slowing climate change can be destabilizing to markets. <\/p>\n<p>There is a major difference between European Central Bank mandates on climate change and those at the U.S. central bank, she said.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe Fed is not doing this [and] I\u2019m trying to pull that apart\u201d in discussions about the differing <a href=\"https:\/\/buradabiliyorum.com\/en\/category\/download-scripts-themes-apps\/\" data-internallinksmanager029f6b8e52c=\"9\" title=\"Download Scripts &amp; Themes &amp; Apps\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">app<\/a>roaches, she said. \u201cTransparency matters and telling people what you\u2019re going to do and why you\u2019re doing it\u2026 is a mitigator to disruptions.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Dallas Fed President Robert Kaplan has raised concerns that oil<br \/>\n        CL00,<br \/>\n        <bg-quote field=\"percentchange\" format=\"0,000.00%\" channel=\"\/zigman2\/quotes\/209723049\/delayed\" class=\"negative\">-0.33%<\/bg-quote><br \/>\n       and gas<br \/>\n        NG00,<br \/>\n        <bg-quote field=\"percentchange\" format=\"0,000.00%\" channel=\"\/zigman2\/quotes\/210189548\/delayed\" class=\"positive\">+2.23%<\/bg-quote><br \/>\n       companies could face a shortage of capital as they need to upgrade or repair facilities during a transition to renewable energy.
