“#Times Square hoverboarder reveals himself as brilliant engineer<\/strong>”<\/p>\n

He\u2019s a fly-by-night kind of guy.<\/p>\n

The mysterious man seen zooming about 30 feet above Times Square over the weekend to stunned onlookers has revealed himself as hoverboard developer Hunter Kowald.<\/p>\n

\u201cIt\u2019s everybody\u2019s childhood dream to fly,\u201d Kowald, 28, told The Post.<\/p>\n

On Tuesday, he published footage of the stunt paired to Frank Sinatra\u2019s \u201cNew York, New York,\u201d in what\u2019s probably the coolest video<\/a> you\u2019ll see this week.<\/p>\n

Donning all black, the tech maestro soared on what looked like a souped-up drone of his own design \u2014 dubbed the \u201cSkySurfer\u201d \u2014 during the brief flight over Broadway.\u00a0<\/p>\n

Kowald, an engineer, called it \u201cthe world\u2019s most powerful and solid hoverboard aircraft.\u201d\u00a0<\/p>\n

The board was put together by hand \u2014 propellers, rotors and all.<\/p>\n

\u201cIt contains about as much power as eight to 10 average houses all at the same time,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n

Just over a month ago, Kowald, who earned a mechanical engineering degree at the University of North Carolina Charlotte, put the finishing touches on the yearslong SkySurfer project. Since then, he\u2019s been \u201cplaying around\u201d with some video content<\/a> near his Los Angeles home.<\/p>\n

Some of those viral clips include him delivering food from a McDonald\u2019s rooftop on SkySurfer and racing a Lamborghini on the hoverboard on a closed course.\u00a0<\/p>\n

Kowald posted<\/a> that he had been in New York to film a music video with J Balvin and Skrillex, but the Times Square flight only happ<\/a>ened because \u201cthe opportunity came up,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n

Manhattan airspace is one of the most heavily regulated areas and NYC has its own rules<\/a> on drones, parachutes, balloons and other flying devices.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe checked with the police and everything was OK to do a little quick demonstration,\u201d Kowald said. (The NYPD told The Post: \u201cWe are aware of the video and are looking into it.\u201d)<\/p>\n

Even though the area was filled with spectators, the entrepreneur insisted the flight wasn\u2019t risky.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe aircraft is designed to be extremely safe; I can have two rotors fail and still land safely,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n

Kowald first dreamed up his craft as a 10-year-old, but only recently has technology<\/a> caught up with his concept.<\/p>\n

Now, the Green Goblin-esque pilot \u2014 who adapted his own Lexus SUV to have self-driving<\/a> capabilities over a year ago \u2014 sees hoverboarding as \u201cthe future of transportation,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n

As Kowald captioned a recent Instagram video: \u201cPeople told me you can\u2019t break the laws of physics \u2026 After a global effort of custom part manufacturing and plenty [of] spontaneous fires [and] explosions\u2026 watch me dance.\u201d\n <\/p><\/div>\n
