She\u2019s the fairest of them all.<\/p>\n

Up-and-coming actress Rachel Zegler is set to star in Disney\u2019s live-action remake of the classic animated fairy tale \u201cSnow White and the Seven Dwarfs.\u201d<\/p>\n

It\u2019s the second lead role for Zegler, 20, who stars as Maria in Steven Spielberg\u2019s upcoming \u201cWest Side Story.\u201d<\/p>\n

Following a string of Disney live-action remakes \u2014 including this year\u2019s Emma Stone-starring \u201cCruella,\u201d 2020\u2019s \u201cMulan\u201d and 2019\u2019s \u201cThe Lion King\u201d \u2014 Disney plans to expand the timeless story of an orphaned princess who falls ill after eating a poisonous app<\/a>le.<\/p>\n

Zegler\u2019s \u201cWest Side Story\u201d performance apparently impressed casting directors and Disney studio executives, sealing the deal.<\/p>\n

\u201cRachel\u2019s extraordinary vocal abilities are just the beginning of her gifts. Her strength, intelligence and optimism will become an integral part of rediscovering the joy in this classic Disney fairy tale,\u201d director Marc Webb said in a statement<\/a> to Deadline.<\/p>\n

Sticking with a musical approach to the story, \u201cSnow White\u201d will feature new tracks with a modern twist. Benj Pasek\u00a0and Justin Paul, who wrote the music for \u201cDear Evan Hansen\u201d and \u201cLa La Land,\u201d are set to compose for the film. It\u2019s not certain whether timeless songs from the 1937 animated film \u2014 including \u201cSomeday My Prince Will Come\u201d and \u201cHeigh-Ho\u201d \u2014 will be part of the remake.<\/p>\n

Zegler got her start in Hollywood after auditioning at a 2018 open casting call for \u201cWest Side Story,\u201d which will premiere in theaters Dec. 10. She was also recently cast in DC\u2019s superhero sequel \u201cShazam! Fury of the Gods.\u201d<\/p>\n

Erin Cressida Wilson (\u201cThe Girl on the Train\u201d) will write the princess screenplay, and production is expected to begin sometime next year.\n <\/p><\/div>\n
